AH, nothing like the sharp sting of sarcasm first thing in the morning...;)

Not so much sarcasm but more of a jest in regards to all the retarded (but serious) claims we've had to endure the last several years

How far off the lands are people seating their ACE? My 25-06 prefit Xcaliber likes anywhere between .015 - .005.

Here's some 25-06 testing we did with Lapua brass. 25-06 is not the most efficient case geometry out there but there is no doubt that with these speeds and the BC available, 25-06 has really grown some legs for Long Range and cutting some wind.

When I get more time I will rechamber this in 25-06 AI to see what level of improvement there is. With these speeds around 3200 fps, that's all I need for my long range hunting and practice needs.

Here's a pic of our budget friendly custom 25-06. They say spend 2x on your scope what you spend on your rifle. : ) This little rig shoots great and makes 1200 yards seem like a chip shot.

Retumbo data didn't load as full image so here it is

Could I get away with a 7 twist barrel on a 25 SST? I live in California so I have to hunt with copper and the Hammers require a 7 twist but I'd also like to be able to shoot the Blackjacks for targets.

I don't think the geometry of the 25-06 is a problem at the published 2940 MV @.330 G7. In fact, 2940 is higher than published 120 grain bullets in reloading manuals and the BJ 131 has no problem at 2940 with the 25-06. The cartridge is archaic no different than the 22-250 overbore range is all. But not quite as archaic as it was before the BJ 131. Anyway, it is the most economical switch for those that already reload the 25-06 and nothing else in .257.

The Sherman website states the BJ 131 is a good match for that cartridge so the 1:7 is within the recommended range by BJ.

It should work just fine!

on a good quality barrel a 1:7 will be fine but the RPMs will be high. We have some shooters running 257 WBY at 3380 fps with no issues in 1:7. 1:7.5 is better but it will work fine.

Can't wait to see your results.

Some of this discussion will become a little frustrating for some shooters who want to build a rifle with a little more versatility than for just one bullet. The decision of which bullets and what twist rate based on velocity and RPMs can be solved ahead of time by using the existing formulas and referencing the limits which describe the functioning of those bullets through a barrel. Run your 'what-ifs' ahead of time by using the recommendations from Blackjack and combined with the data reported by shooters presenting their findings.

Run the stability calculators based on the velocity and potential twist rate.

Run the RPM formula to see where you fall.

Do your homework first to save money and aggravation later. :)

Miles, I forgot to send you that reamer print. My bad. Then I got sick the entire month of January... Seriously... I caught something airborne at a NYE party, and just got over it like 4-5 days ago. No money or insurance, so no doctor... Thought I was going to die, because it drained my immune system so low, I got a bacterial infection that has left me about 50% deaf in my right ear...I'm afraid it might be permanent.

Anyway, that's no excuse, just explaining what was going on.

Now that I'm better, I'll send that print to you for the .25-06 AI.

7" twist in the 1/4 bore puts them in the same category with 8" twist 6.5's. 7" it's what they deserve!

I agree getting good stability with 7" even as low as 2880 with the BJ 131. Also works great with Berger 115 VLD and Speer 120 BT Spitzer at 3000. Shot the 100 SMK at 3150 as well. All good.
