.243 or 6 Creedmoor for my daughters first rifle

the Creedmor is a improved case design to the .243 in every way. Its a superior design period. I love the 243; I really really do. Grew up shooing them from yotes to hogs and deer. it is and super popular and for good reason. But the 6 creedmor is the better case and it just flat out works GREAT!!!!

Its slightly shorter case OAL and longer neck allows for both long high bc and shorter neck bullets to be loaded at ideal seating. Even the longest at the SA mag typical OAL. The sharper shoulder decreases case growth and trimming but still is easy feeding. New brass can be had with the small primer thicker head from Lapua and Peterson which will handle more pressure and loading's if you take care of the necks. (Basically forming the Creedmor from the Palma 308)

While you will certainly find 243 ammo in more local gun shops than creedmor, the big box outdoor store will have plenty of both. If you reload or plan ahead its a non issue.

As your in the Reno area you're at a bit of elevation; 4k-5K?? The 8 twist should work well. If you were closer to sea level or plan to shoot much close to it especially hunting winter such as in the NE I would have strongly recommended a 1:7-7.5. Especially for the 115 hybrids. If they are the VLDs then the 8 is perfect regardless. I shoot the 105 and 115 hybrids and am @sea level to 1-2K elev much of the time so went with a 7.5 and a 7 twist in another.

Be sure to get some pics up when its done and report how it shoots. That Krieger should produce some bugholes with those bullets. Its great your daughter has started to find a passion for shooting/hunting. I have had some great times with my girls hunting and plinking etc.. That should turn out to be , a great rifle for her. Light recoil, accurate, not heavy, good for all medium game.

No animal will tell the difference between the two. So why not 243? Personally I use a 243AI, largely because it eliminates trimming and gives velocity to boot.

I have never been a person that buys into the new trends for most things. But I think some of the new case designs do have some promise. From looking at a bunch of data on both cartridges, there really isn't a big difference in performance. So I guess it comes down to case design and availability of ammo and brass. Since I don't shoot factory ammo anymore, it's more about about the brass availability and quality. I guess I still have some thinking to do. Thanks for all of the replies.

You mentioned she was left handed but IMO, the real question is which eye is dominant? That's the side you shoot from. I'm a "righty" but my left eye was dominant so I shot lefty. Then my eyes changed and now I'm a righty again.

Anyway... 243.

Good point. My son is right handed and strongly left eye dominant. I'm in the process of putting together a left hand rifle for him. My theory is if he shifted to right eye I would just give it a poke.

morning, the ammo world does not like to produce wildcat
brass. thru the years I have seen very good cartridges go by
the wayside, different reasons. apples and oranges
between the 6mm or the 243. I have shot 243 and 243Ai,
and 6mmAi's for years. 243 is one of my favorite.
the 250 savage has been a long favorite. as far as
left handed, I am left handed. I can shoot a right hand
faster than a left hand. one shot, one kill. accuracy comes
first. justme gbot tum

1 in 8 lends itself to longer bullets, but 243 cal barrels wear out faster when loaded hot. 243 has more case capacity,
6 creed has room in the mag for longer bullet.what will she be shooting? Paper,
Whitetail ?

I am right handed but left eye dominant. Luckily my father picked up on it early on and I have shoot guns and archery lefty for a long time. I either use an ambi stock with a right bolt or a true lefty setup.

Shooting off your weak side is less of a thing then most people would think. After a short time, it's very natural. I got so that I barely draw back a bow from the right side after shooting lefty for a while.

Agree...it feels weird to draw a bow on my normal RH side. Muscles get used to it pretty quickly as long as your practice.

I also shoot pool lefty...
