224 Clarck/22-6mm Acley bullets.

Our customer that has a lot of info to add to this thread has joined lrh but the site is not allowing him to post. He sent a note to Len so hopefully they can get it sorted out. He will have a lot of data for a bunch of diff bullets that he has done well with in the hot rod 22cals.

I have tried 3 bullets so far, Nosler CC 77 gr, Hornady 80 gr and Barnes triplex 70 gr.
The Noslers start coming apart at arround 3200, the Hornady almost the same 3200 to 3300. The Barnes are ok at 3700, but I would like to have more options for bullets. Do any of you have any experience with Sierra's? I am not looking for anything lighter than 70 gr. Twist is 1 in 8 on a 27 inch barrel. I did get the Hornady's and Nosler's to 3700, but only 4 or 5 out of 15 made it to the target. Loads are a bit warm, but with RE 25 I can probably get another 100 fps.

I run the 77tmk and 90smk in my fast 22s. Running the 90 in a 8 twist swift at 3300. And the 77 tmk at 3575 in my 220 AI. Also in my 223 wssm!

The hornadys that I have used are the 80 ELD and they don't always make it to the target at 3400, I am at 3700 with a little room to go. I havent tried the 85 Noslers, 75 Bergers or 64 Hammers. That gives me more than enough options with respect to bullets. The Hammers look very interesting.
Iv had good luck with the 64gr hammer they shoot well and kill well. Run the 75 amax at 3550 in a 4 groove brux never lost one.

That bullet would work great. We have another customer that runs a bunch of 22's that we are going to work on a bit heavier for a 8 twist. The 64g is for 8.5 or faster. Thinking we will get to about 70g or so.

He is knocking the snot out of pigs with the 64g.

I shoot Berger 80 VLD's molyied at 3450 out of a 30 inch 3 land Lilja barrel in .224 Vais caliber. How much help the 3 land is and how much due to the moly, I couldn't say.

FWIW - I shot extensively with a 22-243AI with an 8 twist. At the time, I used a 75gr A-Max (moly) bullet at 3,670 ft/sec and never "dusted" a single bullet. Best group I shot was .625" at 600 yds.

The A-Max was a fragile bullet but a smooth custom barrel and moly coating seemed to solve the problem of bullets breaking apart in air.

I also shot the 80gr SMK bullets which have a much thicker jacket and they never have a problem with high velocity and fast twist bbls.

I shot that amax in 220 AI shoots really well at 3575. Never had one come apart yet! Did u shoot any game with the 80 smk ?

No - The A-Max shot so well that I used it exclusively to hunt fat PA groundhogs. Out to 1,000 yds the A-Max just flattened them.

I am currently shooting a 22-243 (plain) and have had very good results with the Berger 82gr LR bullet. I shot a 1.2" group at 400yds the other day. I have slowed the bullets down to about 3,350 ft/sec.

Im in process of building a 22/284! Hoping to shoot the hammer bullets on game. Probably try the new 88gr eld m to. Not sure if it will handle the RPm. I been shooting them at 3400 in 8 twist 223 wssm. Getting pretty good groups!
