I have had 75% of a -15 that lived a very brief stint as a 6.5 Grendel bouncing around in my toolbox for a couple of years. This weekend I decided it was time to rebuild the project and I found a .22 Nosler barrel for a pretty good deal from wilson combat so the build begins.

Since this is half on a whim I figured why not do a spiffy paint job as well. I settled on a kryptec pattern zombie green scheme because I think it looks cool ad always wanted to do something with those colors. Sooooo off to Walmart for some rattlecans, cricut stencil vinyl, etc.

Since my upper didn't fit the best on one of my poverty pony lowers I just grabbed a matching set out of the safe that were clean of grease. Here is the last two days of painting

Once I figured out how and what to pull off the stencil it was still a pain in the *** but the inlaws were all over and I was able to hide away in solitude while they played with the kids.

I started small and just did the butt stock, once I figured out the process I moved to the receivers and then the handguard. Its not perfect but I think it came out rather nice. The barrel is fluted so I will do a black barrel and green flutes whenever it shows up.

Who else is running the .22 Nosler and what are some loads I should look into? Starting fresh here but would like some ideas on powder/bullet combo for yotes, wild dogs, bobcats, hogs, and anything else that should be shot.

I've been on the fence between 224v and 22n. Nos having a rebated rim gets me thinking twice on not to. Valk is to low on powder capacity for fps. Like most things it works for 1, but might not for another? I had been thinking about 284win (another rebated) over 7-08 just because of speed difference. Yes, these are for AR platforms. Hope it's a good 1 for you!

^^I'm with you on both counts. It's a shame they went with that rebated rim, that pretty much crossed it off my list too.

I've seen guys roll their own with a 6.8 case to make a 22-6.8 to get rid of the rebated rim. Seems they huck the 69s pretty zippy without trashing the head so bad.

Being longer than the Valk case I think it's a great choice for under 80gr bullets.

I had this cross my mind also. I got the barrel for $250 though and 200 primed pulled nosler cases for about $60 so its a relatively cheap project with good bones if I decide it just sucks. Swap barrel and go with it.
