22 Creed?

I just put a 22 creed together. It's a savage 10 action with a 28in. 1in 7 McGowan barrel. I have just over 100 rounds through it now. I tried h1000 and h4350 in it. I ran 75 & 80gr eld-m, 80.5 bergers, 77gr TMK's and 77gr nosler CC's. 4350 ran almost 500fps faster than h1000 with same charge. I ran 4350 from 40-44.5grs and H1000 from 40-46grs. Most groups were at the .75moa mark. A couple bigger a couple smaller. The load I stuck with was 44gr of H4350 with a 77gr TMK. 5 shot avg was 3636fps at a .490 group. Zeroed at 250 its a 10in drop at 400yds. I took 2 antelope last week with this rifle and load. Doe was at 390yds. Buck was at 475yds. Doe was a shoulder shot and crumbled instantly. Bullet jacket was under hide on opposite shoulder. Buck was heart shot with pass through. He took 2 steps and face planted. My barrel seemed rough. Very hard to get clean between shots. 7-9 patches patch 1 and 5 with solvent. To get a clean patch between rounds. Cleaned every shot for first 20. Then every 3 after that. Im hoping the barrel smooths out soon and gains a bit more speed and accuracy. Very pleased with the rifle. Very pleasant to shoot. Probably won't last long at that rate but it's a toy and I don't mind spending money to have fun.

I have been shooting 22 Creedmoor for a few years now shooting mainly coyotes but have killed quite a few deer and pigs too. Up around 600-700 rounds on the barrel a
Most all shot at critters of some persuasion used 75/80 gr Hornady and 80.5 Berger for 100 rounds too. From 24 inch barrel expect 3400-3500 depending on powder and how much brass life you expect.
My standard load 45.3 gr Reloder 26 runs the 80gr at 3440

I'm getting ready for a 22 Creed build. What is you COAL with the 80 ELDM?

My barrel seemed rough. Very hard to get clean between shots. 7-9 patches patch 1 and 5 with solvent. To get a clean patch between rounds. Cleaned every shot for first 20. Then every 3 after that.

This is one of the drawbacks to McGowan barrels, they are not real top-of-the-line quality no matter what folks want to post about how wonderful theirs is.

You might consider using something along the lines of Iosso Bore Cleaner and Polishing Paste

It's available from many suppliers, Midway was just first in the list. I have used a nylon brush slightly undersized with a cotton patch wrapped around it with a thin layer of paste on the patch. This is a non-abrasive cleaner but will remove fouling and do a little smoothing without harm to the lands and grooves.

Stay off the crown and the throat of the chamber. Mark your rod with tape so as not to exceed either point.

Probably won't last long at that rate but it's a toy and I don't mind spending money to have fun.

You might be surprised. If, on the other hand you want to try another powder, Re-23 might be a little more gentle on the lands and grooves.

Please explain the advantage of a .22 Creedmoor over the .22-250? Putting on a fast twist barrel and I see eeny - meeny between the two.

I appreciate the info. I use JB bore paste and bore brightener on all my guns. I usually do 7-10 patch series on a barrel before I ever shoot it. 1 with paste then dry until clean. Then repeat, I've had really good luck doing this. I have a couple other Mcgowen barrels and they are nothing like this. None 22cal though. It shoots right at .5moa so it's not bad. I think if it smooths out and a bit more load work it will be a solid rig.

A little longer legs and more efficient case.
I have a 222rem 223rem 22-250 224 valkyrie 220 swift and the 22creed. The creed in my rifles out runs all the others especially in 68gr and above.

I got mine put together,and found my load on the second range outing.
Parts include-
ARC Nucleus LH SA action -30 moa rail-Barloc barrel retaining system
X-Caliber 20" 1-7 twist 5R rifling varmint contour barrel
TriggerTech Diamond trigger
KRG Bravo chassis modified to LH using a LH Whiskey 3 backbone and modifying the outer shell for a LH bolt handle.
Revic PMR 428 scope mounted in ARC medium M10 34mm rings

I just had to try some Reloader 26 the first outing,but I knew going in that it probably wouldn't work with the shorter barrel. It didn't work,the SD/ES numbers were off the charts.
The second outing got me what I was hoping for. 43.2 gr of H4350 was just what it needed to wake up and play. 5 shots at 100 yards = .179" group,I'll take it!
Velocity was right at 3400 fps shooting the 75 gr A-Max.

Now,I can load up a bunch and learn how to operate the electronics in this scope.
