I would spring for the 22 magnum for sure, long rifle is not enough...lol. My serious opinion would be if a gas gun was the plan, the Valkyrie and if a bolt gun, 22-250. I own a 220 Swift (nothing wrong with that old classic...still gets it done) that if it had a 9 twist or 8 twist barrel would be a killer at extended ranges. Unfortunately it has a 12 twist barrel, but it shoots the Berger 62gr flat base bullets very well 500 and under. I can touch bullets at 200yds so I would say well under half MOA. I killed several groundhogs with it a couple summers back, one was at 280yds all I could see was the top half of his head, right through the eye socket...another was a vitals hit at 480yds. I stopped hunting after the 480yd one...lol, I figured I will quit while I was ahead.
