Looking to build a new coyote rifle, and deciding between 4 cartridges... 22-250, 22 creed, 22 nosler and 224 Valkyrie.

Would also like to use on targets out to 1000 which my exclude the 22-250.

If you're building a rifle, the 22-250 with push a heavy just as well as the others, but you have to make sure the chamber is cut for the heavier bullets and twisted to suit. The 22-250 will push an 80gr bullet over 3000fps without much trouble, an any of the good 80gr match bullets will take you to 1k no problem at that speed. Plus, there's way more options for brass and dies since it's such a well established round. Get a 1-7.5 twist 26" barrel and you could even run the 90gr sierra, that'll do 1000 better than some of the 6mm's

22-250 with 7.5 to 8" twist would do well but if you're planning on an AICS type magazine, it won't feed well with more than about 6 rounds in the mag due to the case taper. If I do another .22, it will no doubt be the Creedmoor.

I love the 22-250. Its a great cartridge and easy to tune. Slap on a 7 twist barrel to shoot the 95 smk and you've got something that will easily equal the 6mms. The 22 creed will have more velocity. Down side is brass if you dont want to neck down 6mm creed brass. Hornady and alphamuntions both make 22 creed brass. 22-250 brass is everywhere. My father did a 22-250 AI. It launches a 95 smk at 3200 fps. It's a lazer beam. I would do the 22 creed over the 22-250AI though. No fire forming that way.

The 22-250ai is a great round for sure. Im on like my 5th barrel, shooting a 90 grain berger at 3080fps out of a 22" 1-8 twist desert tech srs. Its hell on pdogs so far and shoots sub 1/4moa groups.

I built a 22x47 Lapua last year for a calling gun, 80 VLD's at 3370 in a 23" Bartlein.
Certainly kills them, but I wouldn't count on it for a fur gun.

The same bullet out of a 22-204 at 3025 is a bit better in that regard.

I would spring for the 22 magnum for sure, long rifle is not enough...lol. My serious opinion would be if a gas gun was the plan, the Valkyrie and if a bolt gun, 22-250. I own a 220 Swift (nothing wrong with that old classic...still gets it done) that if it had a 9 twist or 8 twist barrel would be a killer at extended ranges. Unfortunately it has a 12 twist barrel, but it shoots the Berger 62gr flat base bullets very well 500 and under. I can touch bullets at 200yds so I would say well under half MOA. I killed several groundhogs with it a couple summers back, one was at 280yds all I could see was the top half of his head, right through the eye socket...another was a vitals hit at 480yds. I stopped hunting after the 480yd one...lol, I figured I will quit while I was ahead.
