22-250 AI ELDM 88gr

Interested in this cause I am building the same thing but with a 28 inch barrel and using slower powder with the 88gr eldm. Not sure now after reading this weather to stick 22-250 or go the AI route.
How are you finding the feeding of the AI case?

I run all the Bullets you mention in my 22-250 1-7 twist. Never had an issue. I believe you have a problem with your barrel. It's doing something to the bullets as it's going down the barrel. I had a friend running a 22 creedmoor with the same issue. It ended up being the barrel. Lands maybe scaring up the jacket.

Have a 22-250 AI, not a 1 in 7 twist, but the case is very easy to get multiple loads for.likes all different powers, bullets, kills like a lazer!

I've been blowing up 88 ELD-M from a 28"barrel 22 creed at 3200's every time I've tried to find a load. But I've ran the 80 ELD-M up to 3545fps without a failure. I think they must have a jacket issue with a batch of 88's
There's no way in my mind that bullet should be limited to 2750fps. Also know another guy who tried shooting them from a 22 creed proof barrel he couldn't keep them together anywhere above 3100fps he switched to 85.5 grain Berger's with great success. That's just my experience and 2 cents worth.

Have a 22-250 AI. 7:1 twist
Tried 35.5gr H4350 with 88gr ELDM getting3100 ft/sec and blowing up bullet
Want to back down to 2750ft/sec to meet Hornady max.
Should I stay with H4350 or possible going to a faster powder like Varget?
I have ran the 88 eld up to 3350 fps in a 22 creedmoor out to 500yds with no issues. Ran up to 3260 in another 22 creedmoor no issues. Both were 7 twist 6 groove barrels. From what I understand, in a 4 groove 7 twist the 88 elds may indeed blow up when running to 3100 & up. It was recommended to me to use a 5r or more grooves when running that fast with the 88 eld in a 7 twist so that it will be a more gentle on the bullet jacket.

Know this is old but twist and groove are typically the culprits for blowing up long for caliber bullets. ( also long barrels have an effect too)

Basically over rpm, heat and bite on the jacket ( from groove depth) can destroy them. We shoot 88 Eldms in 26" 22-250 AI barrels at 3200-3250 fps with 8 twist 3 groove barrels and most survive. Friend has a 30" 8 twist 3 groove that's 30" barrel bench gun and it loses 1/2 the bullets shot. They re running 3350 FPS.

When Hornady recommends a 7 twist for that bullet they re trying to cover 223, 22 BR and up cases. The big volume 22 s can use an 8 twist if your elevation, etc all aligns up. Regardless you re walking a fine line when you get in this arena!

Seems like all the .224 heavies are built for the smaller case .224 cartridges. That is why the real fast twist barrels are recommended. Use a real fast twist barrel in a large case cartridge and bullet blow up is very likely. I hear about it often. I'm running an 8 twist 30" 4 groove ratchet Shilen barrel. Been running the 75/80s at 3550+ with a 22-250AI. Trying to find some 88 ELDs to see if I can get them to stabilize and stay together. Don't see why they wouldn't stay together since the 80 ELDs do great. Stabilization is the main concern.

I'm shooting 42.5gn of superformance at 3375fps and shooting 1/4" MOA at 100yrds. With 88 ELD-match out of my 22-250 a.I. 1-8 twist 26" barrel.

I have 3 22creeds they are all blowing up 85.5 Bergers if I run them over 3250 they will blow up the 5 shot every time my bartlin barrel blows them up at 3200 trying 88gr eldm at 3220 in it so far they are staying together. 26" barrels 1&7 twist

I think 7.5 twist is the solution for the heavies at high launch speeds.
