22-250 AI 80 and 90 gr bullets

I'm shooting a 22-250AI in a 20" 8-twist barrel suppressed, and found a good load for the 80 grain Sierra Match King with H4350 and an equally good load for the 62 grain Barnes TSX to be IMR4320.

I am running H4350 behind 80s in my 8 twist 22-250AI. Reasonable velocities/very consistent, but I think going slower would yield faster results. The Hornady tipped 80s are great for low recoil and hits on distant marmots/rockchucks. Haven't even tried the Berger 80s yet.

As mentioned earlier IMR 7828 SC will work well. There's six or seven of us with 22-250 AI s and 7828 and H1000 have been great powders for years. We re shooting 8 twist with 75 s and 80 s. Around 42-43 of 7828 with the 75 has given 3400-3450. Charge dependent on rifle. H1000 takes another grain or so... work up though as these are full tilt loads.

Believe it or not I ve had great luck with IMR4831, 39-39.5 grs with 80 gr Berger VLD. Right at 3400 fps in my 26" barrel and half inch MOA. Have quite a bit of this powder and pleasantly surprised when I tried it! Again, work up as it's full pressure and Bergers have shorter bearing surface than most other bullets.

We found R26 to work good but no better accuracy wise than the other mentioned powders, around 50 fps more but due to it being so hard to find we ll all continue with our 7828, H1000 and me with my ZiMR4831.

Good Luck, the 22-250 AI is a good one. Now that the 22 Creed has brass that ll be a much easy proposition though.

I have a longer throat on mine, so seating the bullets out let me load 44.5gr of 7828ssc for 3,550 with the 75 Amax/ELD and 3,400+(can't recall actual) with the 80's. It will go a little faster but groups were best in these ranges.

As for IMR4831, yes, I shot that for years along with H4350. Good call.

Thank you all. I appreciate all your guys help. How much freebore works best for heavier bullets

Edition 6 of the Sierra manual has a generous amount of load data for the 22-250 AI up to and including their 95 grain HPBT Match King.

Bump.....for an old thread. Any new info anyone?

I have some 85.5's coming in to give a go in my 22/250Ack

RL26, H1000, RL23, H4831sc. Those all would work well with the 22-250 Ackley with the heavy bullets. Take a look at the new Berger 85.5gr Long Range Hybrids for 22cal. They look very impressive on paper and I'm sure they'll shoot great too.

thx Joe, have you worked with that bullet and any other powders?

Shot any yotes with the 85.5?

I haven't, have the 62 TTSX (heck of a bullet) as well the 70 Accu and the 70 Hammer

Honestly, I can't imagine a place where I'd need a heavy hard bullet like the 78

The 80gr Sierra Match Kings shoot so well in my set up, so I would like to find a medium game bullet of about the same weight with similar ballistics (i.e., drop chart).
