Just picked up a rifle in 22-250 ai. Has a 28 in pac-nor 1-7 twist barrel. I am wanting to run 80 or 90 gr Berger's in it if it likes them. Anyone running this combination. If so what's a good powder to start with . Thanks

RL26, H1000, RL23, H4831sc. Those all would work well with the 22-250 Ackley with the heavy bullets. Take a look at the new Berger 85.5gr Long Range Hybrids for 22cal. They look very impressive on paper and I'm sure they'll shoot great too.

H4350 works also, but if you want, take a look at 7828SSC. I played with it about 3 years ago, and I gained about 100fps with the 80 Amax and ELD. I haven't tried the 85.5 Berger yet, but plan to grab a couple of boxes soon. I just have sooo many of the old Amax and 80gr Berger bullets, and they shoot very well in my 26" 1/8 twist.

I run RL-26 in my 22-250 with 95 SMK. Couldn't get the Speed i wanted with H4350 and RL-22 just didn't shoot well. If RL-26 didn't work out I was going to try H1000 or Superformance. Still might.

22-243 here. Tried one barrel with a 7 twist and didn't work out for me. 90 grain Berger's wouldn't shoot so switched to 80 grain a max and they would vaporize 50 yards down range. Went back to 8 twist with 75 grain amax. Hope u have better luck

Slow powders will be your friend. My father runs the 22-250AI with the 95 smk and rl-26. He's getting over 3200 fps with that combo. 3600+ with 75s. I would try rl-26 or rl-23 first. After that I'd look to h1000 or maybe even rl-16.
Thanks great info!!

As mentioned earlier IMR 7828 SC will work well. There's six or seven of us with 22-250 AI s and 7828 and H1000 have been great powders for years. We re shooting 8 twist with 75 s and 80 s. Around 42-43 of 7828 with the 75 has given 3400-3450. Charge dependent on rifle. H1000 takes another grain or so... work up though as these are full tilt loads.

Believe it or not I ve had great luck with IMR4831, 39-39.5 grs with 80 gr Berger VLD. Right at 3400 fps in my 26" barrel and half inch MOA. Have quite a bit of this powder and pleasantly surprised when I tried it! Again, work up as it's full pressure and Bergers have shorter bearing surface than most other bullets.

We found R26 to work good but no better accuracy wise than the other mentioned powders, around 50 fps more but due to it being so hard to find we ll all continue with our 7828, H1000 and me with my ZiMR4831.

Good Luck, the 22-250 AI is a good one. Now that the 22 Creed has brass that ll be a much easy proposition though.
