2024 Dove Season

Some pics from seasons past. 3rd pic is my home-made dove vortex. Its a 12v windshield wiper motor run through a speed controller, using a lithium battery for power. All contained neatly in an ammo can. I wired a remote on-off relay in line so I can turn it on and off up to 150 yards away. It can make all the difference on slow days. I've watched passing birds hundreds of yards out turn 90 degrees and fly straight into the spread when they spotted movement. I used two of the wind activated Mojo decoys on fiberglass driveway marker rods attached to a simple aluminum hub on the motor shaft. I think the rods are 6 foot so the birds fly in a 12 foot circle.

You guys ever get any bands? I've killed two and my buddy killed one when we were hunting together. I've shot a banded pigeon as well. Easy to miss if you aren't paying attention.

I'll be going to California to hunt Dove with one of my nephews. Man, it was a pain finding steel shot for the 20 gauge. Midway had it and I got 2 cases. That should be enough for Dove, and later on quail and cottontails. There is lots of Dove where we will be hunting, but it is starting to cool down. In the area, where we hunt when it starts to cool down the Dove magically disappears further south. Happens every year if it cools down we are left high and dry!

Got the Brown Top Millet seeding out. Should be ready for or Sept.7th opener in Ga. Tried planting sunflowers but the deer made short work of them. I'm in a dove club that the owner definitely knows how to plant for dove.

This hunting season will be challenging. Found out last Nov. why my balance and walking is declining. ALS. So far it's just my legs.

Came up with this to get around the dove field. Told a friend what I wanted and he made it happen. Don't think it will help my shooting lol but at least I'll be out there with my friends and enjoying the outdoors. I'll have my gal Nellie by my side. That's if it's not to hot. Watch your dogs in these early seasons. They can get way to hot quick!!!

Enjoy and good luck to all. Show some pics of your opener👍😎
