My wife got her second elk ever today, a big ol cow. Made an awesome shot in tough conditions! It was pretty close, only 430 yards, but she was laying prone in deep snow facing down hill, having to shoot strait across a draw, in gusting 20-30 mph winds, with those tiny stinging little snow flakes blasting her in the face, all while the elk were moving out, and still made an awesome shot! Super proud of her!

I had been watching him from a distance, across a large field, for a couple years.

This year, I had enough rifle for a 800 yard poke, if needed. I let him go a couple nights because it was so windy, gusting to 30mph.

Patience prevailed about a week into the season when he came out early on a calmer evening, trailing a couple big does. Ended up only being about 300 yards out when I shot him.

PA mountain buck down!

PA mountain hunting has been pretty brutal thus far. Lots and lots of rain and little deer movement. This guy stepped out though and could have cared less it was raining sideways. Shot was under 100 yards through the pines. The M600 350 Rem Mag gets another notch in her belt. I fricken love that little rifle.

Here's a little 8 pointer I shot at 233 yrds. First animal harvested with the 35 whelen I built in the last year. 200 gr hornady going 2950. I got the barrel from James at NSS. Shilen match...12 twist..24 in. Shoots amazingly. Savage 110 that used to be a 30-06. Other people have shot it so now I have to build 2 more. Love it that iowa has allowed us to play with 35 cal rifles during rifle season. All the 35's are getting a new lease on life.

Forgot to say I used 300 win mag with 180 gr. Hammer Hunters again. Was only a 35 yd. shot running. Got him right before he got into trees. The day before I had a 384 yd. shot from above the river on him. He was trailing 2 does thru the trees on other side of river and wouldn't stop. He was just about to go behind some thick stuff. When his head went behind the tree I shot. I heard a smack but didn't sound right. Watched for couple minutes. Nothing moved. Went down there to the spot where I shot and he was about 20 yds from it and took off flying. I didn't see any blood at spot so followed the trail in snow he ran down for 150 yds. No blood. I went back to spot I shot at him. Looked at the tree he started to go behind. Yep. Bullet hole 🙄 Yesterday I was sitting in same spot. We spotted m buddy's buck going across field heading for trees on BLM. We drove down there and caught him before he got into trees. 50 yd. shot. Got him. Drove back to top. He was working on his buck and I was glassing below. 2 bucks were crossing field going for trees. We jumped in truck and down we went again. I found one just inside trees. Was squeezing trigger and he ran. Was about 30 yards. Was just a 6 pt. I think or small 8 pt. Back up to top again. He's working on his buck and about 20 min. later I spotted the buck I missed day before. I said there he is let's go ! Back down we went. He was on private in the tree line that comes into BLM. I waited and about 20 min. later he came into road and stared at me for about 30 seconds. I had him in scope and knew he was going to bolt for trees. I was on other side of the road. He took off and crossed road and right at treeline I shot him on the run. DRT. Tagged him and back up top we went. I gut mine and he finally got to finish his. 😆
