Years ago, I rented a Ford Escape (?) from probably Hertz at the airport in Rapid. I don't recall if it was 2 or 4 wheel drive. We hunt south of Newcastle on a cattle ranch. It worked fine even in the wet and muddy conditions on the cattle ranch we hunted. The only minor issue was the wheel base on the Escape was narrower than the two-track ranch roads, so I had to choose which side to put the wheels into which ruts.
