.2-.3 100 yard cold bore challenge

Fired this group last night after having the scope off to recheck my zero. accuracy was falling off a bit after about 50 rounds so I cleaned the rifle just before also. so its a clean cold bore shot +2 at 200 yards off Harris bipod from a bench.

8mm-first three shots.png
This is a photo of the first three shots from my 8mm Coyle. It was 1/4" center to center. The load consists of highly modified Lapua 7 Rem Mag brass with no belt, Hammer Hunter 198 grain, Federal 215 Magnum, H4350 @ 3,054 feet per second. Rifle weighs 7 1/4 pounds ready to go. I fired two more and #4 opened the group to 9/16" with #5 touching the first three.

So got to go and shoot my 35 Whelen today and fireform the rest of my brass. Other than pulling on the 4 th shot I'd say it shoots pretty decent. Those 35 cal bullet sure make a big hole . The bullets I'm using for fire forming are 180 Speer hot cor over a lighter charge of imr 4064 .
The group shot was shots 21-25 through the new barrel . Some more fine tuning then it's off to the 250 gr speers . Hopefully they will shoot this good or better . This was my first real attempt at forming 30-06 brass to 35 Whelen . The brass looks good shoulders nice and crisp all measurements look good .
Can't wait to plow a big ol doe with this sucker here in a few weeks

Shot at 200y with my Terminus/ibi 6.5cm. Berger 144hyb/h4350. The outlier in the first group was not the cold bore shot, the first shot was the highest in the cluster of 4.

Second group was partly my fault, wiffed the first one low, knew if as the shot broke. One of the ones you don't need to look downrange for as you know it wasnt there. Also dialed in a click for wind, which proptly died right off..

One of my fishing clients sent me some 120 amax match Hornady ammo. Today was the first time to the long gun range since May. Here are the first 10 shots. The 3 that leaked out were in the middle of the string calm conditions then the wind picked up. You can see one of the shots of my dot drill below my hand.
Savage 12 in the Ashberry precision chassis(savage option) facotry 120 amax 200yds. I'm trying to show a nickle in the pic but had

some issues getting the picture right

Five or so years ago my son built me a 6.5 Creedmoor for Father's Day based on a Remington 700 action. It was a time when you could not get brass of any kind other than Hornady factory ammo. The rifle shot the Hornady ammo pretty well generally under an inch 3 shot groups ( I generally only shoot 3 shot groups as I am a hunter and not a target shooter). I then reloaded the Hornady brass using H4350 and Hornady 140 Amax bullets which improved the group size where the rifle would shoot in the 6's and 7's. Then Hornady produced their new bullets and shortly after Peterson started producing brass for the 6.5 Creedmoor. The combination of Peterson brass, Hornady 147 ELD M's, and R26 powder in this rifle has been a winning combination with the rifle consistently shooting in the 3's or better.

A shooting buddy and I went to the range on a cold and what turned out to be a foggy morning. I was hoping to shoot out to the ranges max yardage which was 500 yards. 200 yards was as far as we could see. I was able to get 3 shots off before the fog rolled in and I could not see the target. This group was shot cold bore. The picture shows the result.

300 yd, 6.5 creedmoor, Hornady Black 140 grain. Man , how I wish I could get a hunting bullet to group this well at 300 yd. I would be ecstatic. This is the second time I have shot this rifle. Still working on it.👍

Peterson loads the 130 tgk and the fgmm 130 ar hybrid as well as the 140 hybrid. In my savages the 125 deer xp from winchester shoots sub moa to 300yds. If the black ammo is an amax or eldm I'd use it up to deer without issue. The deer xp. The precision line from hornady has been decent for many also if you are limited to using factory ammo.

5 rds including cold bore at 100yds. Shot today with a factory ruger american go wild in .308 win. Shot from a front and rear bag in prone position. 125gr TNT over 52gr win748 and federal standard primers.
Group is not on a bull, initial group for dialing adjustment to 100 yds zero.

Its amazing how far these 'budget' rifles have come. I remember the days of buying a mid level remchester and not knowing if it would shoot. Today you can buy a $400 ruger off the shelf, slap on a $300 swfa, shoot box 6.5 creedmoor and know it will go under an inch. Known good loads will probably bug hole.

That is great. What's the velocity on that round.
