.2-.3 100 yard cold bore challenge

did some seating testing today for my 6.5Creedmoor. I have been shooting the 147 at a coal of 2.840to 2.843 depending on the lot. My comparator number is the same base to ogive number. I bought 2k 147s and they are a different lot than my old stock. The same seating and closer just wasn't cutting it so I started over. Base is 45.0 of rl19 2765fps sd4 using lab radar today 18 was the es over 44 shots 36 are in the pics.
I started by shooting 3 2.843 on a cleaned dry bore. Cold bore was 1.5 high at 200. I then loaded 3 at 2.870 followed by 2.860, 55,50,35 and 30 to confirm that they were not good.
Weather started 59 light rain light 4to7mph at 5to7oclock. After shooting that I shot some other stuff mostly steel with an ar.
I shoot Danzac coated bullets so it can take a few to shoot in when clean like today. The 300yd area had a crowd today so everything shot on paper was at 200. The 100yd bench rest targets top right was cold bore with the center bull hold but shot into the square. Second fouler is wide left and 3rd was in the left black of the box. Thought it was good so proceeded to a top left across then down approach. I had a 2in and 1 out @ 2.870, 60, and 55, Finally I got a round group at 50. Went to .35 and it opened as expected shot the .30 with the same expected more opened group. I knew that it should shoot when the bore seasoned on the 2nd go it did.. I will seat 10ea from 2.875 to 2.850 in .02 increments to get my final.
Just to give a process. I will load at 2.90 then seat everything the night or 2 before I shoot I will seat to what my load data states. If I let stuff sit for more than a month at the correct coal I see higher sd's and not as good accuracy. For those that are new to finding seating this is after testing from a hard jam to .130 off with this bullet from other lots.

Shot in my first club shoot today. I have been banned from competing till this year. The conditions were 19 to 23 degrees 22to 26right to left wind 300yd targets 1/2 moa x 1 moa 10 ring. We had 15 shooters. I used my 308 first 5 were my standard 168smk @ 2630fps in lake city. The second 5 I used 173fmj match in lake city @ 2680@40 degree Temps. These have a bc of .53 vs .46. Sorted they are interchangeable with more forgiveness in the wind. The second leg had much more switching and I needed to get the data. Second was won with my 6.5 by my friend with another 100 but only 4x's. The steel was @200 a 20 shot head shot as fast as I could go my shot timer was 24.xxseconds from prone loaded ready to fire. The first 5 included cold bore which was in the 3 off the x. The 2 on the line were both me missing the pick up. I had a mil of wind dialed and was holding .1 to .3 for the first 5 and no dial holding just .8 or less. No wind flags allowed no coaching while loaded. Had a pretty big grin for the ride home

Banned from competing?

I was not a member that is why I was banned before. You can shoot but not compete in the club events as a guest. I wish it was because i was too good. In good weather, I struggle against most of these guys with their br's and other stuff. I shoot tactical gear not benchrest gear.

I shoot both and place in the top three in Brenchrest but have not been able to do so in tactical. I am currently building a 308 for tactical an hope it will put in the X-Ring.

Goto a prs match. IT is a 750 dollar lesson for the price of entry and the 100-200 rounds of ammo. It will show everything you are weak in. Best part is 99.9% of the people there will give actionable advice on how to correct. your weaknesses. I will say it boils down to fundamentals and building your final firing position. I have shot across the course at camp perry years ago. sitting was easy back then in the sense I could get into a solid position with ease. Today due to injuries I cannot sit crossed legged for more than a few seconds or my hip will pop out of joint. MAkes that much more challenging for me.
AS far as a rifle for that. IF it will shoot into a minute of angle it will not be the issue with your scores. Better is an obvious advantage for your confidence and may give you a point or 2 but if you have a 1moa system and can call the wind within 1-2mph you will do better than runnig a tack driver and not be able to call the wind better than 5mph or worse not catch the switch or be able to read mirage. THat aspect and building your ffp with a solid foundation for your npa will put hits on your scorecard. I have been shooting with my tri pod every trip since the election. WhIch is not many unfortunately. One of the biggest obstacles has been length of pull. I took my prs gen 3 off and went back to the original carbine stock so I can shorten it up enough to be comfortable. PRone it changes about 3"lop. Otherwise my zero changes almost 2" due to something in my fundamentals I have not identified yet. PRone to bench I see maybe a .1mil change which could be just environmental on the load.

On another thread, a person asked about fouling a barrel before shooting for record (or hunting). Just got my 6x47 Shehane back after some action work. Barrel was scrubbed clean. As usual, i have to shoot at least one fouler before the barrel calms down and goes back to hammering. Here is a classic illustration of fouling a barrel before shooting/hunting. 5 shot group, 1st one out of the group. Next 4 into a ragged hole (.267).

I had one like that. The first one was always about a minute high.
