180gr ELDM for hunting?

I had one last winter come apart in flight in a 8 twist 5r doing 2975 fps or so.
It made a different sound when fired.
And it looked like this at the target.
Once that happened i would never use them on game.
But on a side note my box was early production and I spoke with Gunwerks and they said the new ones won't do that.
Hopefully that's true but one was enough for me to not trust them.

R#22, cci 250 in your 7RM will get you 2850 fps, amazing accuracy, mine is a 9T, 6 Groove button rifle barrel.

I have to wonder, as a percentage, how many people use high BC long range and sometimes fragile bullets and don't shoot past 300 yds.
Guessing 80%

I think it was last year when some guy said that small groups weren't repeatable and any shot on a deer was inhumane past 300 yds

Alright I pulled the trigger on 300 of them. At $33/100 they're just too cheap to not try!

I'll update this thread with my results.

As stated before avoid shoulder shots if you plan on eating it, and prepare for an instantaneous 4 hoofs in the air

This Speed goat took a dirt nap from the 180 ELD M at 325 yards from my PRC. Didn't even twitch after the shot. Muzzle Velocity around 2985. Lungs were mush. Last year I shot a "transgender" elk at 300 with the 162 ELD M from a Rem Mag and it spun around and flopped backwards after the shot. Vitals were mush as well. I've been impressed with ELD M's so far on critters. I killed my Whitetail last year with a 147 ELD M and my daughter killed her deer this year with the 147 ELD M.

As for bullet blow-ups, we should remember that Hornady will produce millions of bullets each year so there's a 100 % chance that a few of these bullets will not meet the specs that we desire. That is saying the automotive industry will produce one million trucks without a defect. I've been lucky in my 60 years of hunting without a bullet blow-up, but I shoot for accuracy and not speed. I've never seen Max velocity produce Max accuracy. Shoot straight and hope you guys have a great season!

I never hear of any story's of bergers blowing up. They make millions of bullets also

I haven't heard of a eldm blowing up in a long time. If someone has blown one up recently I'd love to hear about it and the specifics. If not, it's old news.

And Bergers have had blowups. Other bullets have also. Anything mechanical can and will fail.
