I got invited to shoot steel plates up to 1200 yards this Friday and Saturday. For laughs and giggles, I decided to unscrew the 26 inch fluted barrel and swap it with the 18 inch 10T Proof CF, and run it suppressed with AAC Titan QD. In retrospect I should have opted for a 9T or 8T so I can run heavy monos. The 215s will have to do. Still have enough FGGM 190s to burn up this barrel, twist choice is not all futile.

The barrel is short, I could not chuck it in the headstock between spiders on either the 1440, nor the 1236, so the little green machine got the nod. The JET lathe is only 1024, belt drive, but very capable.

The JET HS is so short that I can run the 18 inch barrel between spiders and not touch the carbon fiber. I can chamber and thread the muzzle easily. Muzzle thread would be 3/4-24.

This 18th Proof barrel would be the 5th barrel on this action. The previous ones; original 7RM Sendero, 7 STW, Schneider M40 300WM, and the Wilson fluted 300WM.

We shall see how it works out. AAC cautioned me about running an 18 inch 300WM with the Titan QD. I think for limited rounds per time period, it should be fine. Not running rattle battle pace here.

Are there any members here who are running 18 inch 300WM suppressed? Could you please share the good, the bad, and the ugly?

Looks like you are indexing the inside of the barrel to thread the muzzle. Like the short spindle length lathe you have.
Let us know how it shoots.
Thanks

I was going to run an extension on the muzzle so I can use the PM1440TV. There is enough SS on the muzzle to chuck it up. After threading the muzzle, I abandoned the idea. Tested the 1024 for taper and parallelism between centers. Cut the center in the chuck. After satisfied that the little guy is still running true, I went ahead and installed the front spider.

The bore is slightly tighter, the smallest Deltronics pin, increment of 0.0001 would not go in on either end. So, I stuck the Interapid with long stem in the breech end, and dialed the area ahead of the throat. Dialed the muzzle bore with another indicator.

With both running true, indicating the groove, I went ahead and proceeded to drill, indicated the area again ahead of the throat, then tapered reamed the body to within 0.010. Will run the finish reamer to HS, then thread the tenon.

This little lathe keeps reminding me that it was made better than the brand new PM1440TV. When I trig the compound to the body taper, the degree graduation is more accurate. Not that it matters, as you just rough the angle and then adjust, but just a note on how well this little guy was put together.

Plan to shoot it this weekend.

It is done

You will see the benefit of split-top barrel vise. This is an old Davidson. I had 2 Vipers I gave to friends after I split the tops. The front section is just wide enough to grab the SS part of the carbon wrapped barrel.

The assembled rifle with the M2010 can is still about an inch or so shorter than the previous fluted barrel.

The rest, the pictures tell the tale.

Debating whether to mount a March or my all time favorite, the NXS 5.5-22X56 with NPR2 reticle.

You do GREAT work!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss my old belt drive 12x36 Taiwan lathe. My new lathe does great work and is more user friendly. But damnit I wish I kept that 80's Taiwan lathe picked it up for $750
They are nice for what they are.

Mine serves as a loaner wherever my friends come over to use a lathe. I set the belt on a little loose side for our own protection.

This has a VFD now, it's getting a DRO or TravADial by summer.
