I've been interested in hammer bullets for a while now, maybe I'll grab a sample pack and give them a go.

My mom used one of these for many years, shot a lot of deer and a couple elk. 30-06 with 165 and 180g bullets. I think dad loaded them with IMR4064 powder.

This past Saturday I tested the 163gr HHT in my 30.06. I used H4350 and obtained a .7 MOA that I'll revisit to improve accuracy. This is a 10 twist and apparently likes the Hammers.

I have a short barrel 18" 30-06. With factory copper 165g TTSX Outfitter ammo I'm getting 2660fps. This would be a viable big game rifle to about 400 yards with this factory offering.
In your opinion what would be the best bullet powder combo for such a short barrel 30-06? pushing distances to possibly 500/600yards.
I would think a slower powder like 4064 or even Varget might be worth trying. Use strictly premium quality bullets and find an accurate load.

Went through some testing recently when Norma URP became unobtainable. Varget or H4350 are always good choices, where they are viable. Staball 6.5 and March are also proving themselves to produce good results for me in 30/06 as well with a 20" barrel. I've had great results on deer out to 500 with a Nosler ballistic tip.
