175 Berger Elite Hunter Jump???

How well did the 175 work on deer at long range, say out to 1,000 yds? I have a box and yet to test them. I've been using the 180 gr eldm's in my 7 mag.

My farthest kill with the 175's was a Blacktail buck at 887 yards, shot hit the front of the shoulder and exited behind the off shoulder and the Buck never took a step. Exit hole was about the size of a golf ball. I believe I have around 6 to 7 kills between 590 and 887 yards with the 175 and all were emphatic kills. I love that bullet but here in California I had to go lead free for my hunting rifles. Kinda still bummed about that. Hope this helps, Jason

For those that have run the .284 175 Berger Eline Hunter bullets how much jump did they like? I'm trying to decide how much freebore I need. I'm building on a XM length action so 3.2" coal is max. I would like to target 3.1". My smith asked me to send him some dummy rounds that he will set the reamer for. So I loaded them right at 3.1" but I need to let him know if I want to jump them more than .01 which for a hunting rifle I usually like a .03 jump. Just curious what those bullets like usually.

30-50 thousandths . They shoot very well and are not jump sensitive for the handful of barrels I have shot them through.

According to Bryan Litz 0.015 off. All of the Berger hybrids are designed for that as a starting load and should stay good to 0.060 as the throat erodes. There is a you tube video out there with Bryan discussing the hybrids

Berger told me to start close to lands and go 0.010" off increments until you find it then micro tune each side of that. Seems to work every time. The length will be broader than other bullets. From what I've seen is it's generally close to a whole 0.010" long pretty much.

I run the Elite Hunters in several calibers and have always started them at .030 off and have only had to change seating depth once.

In my 280AI specifically, I run the 175s @ 2924 fps and at .030 off. Very accurate and typical Berger terminal performance.

RL-23. 58.2gr in Peterson brass and FGMM primers. 24" barrel.

Or....080-.105" or so. I have three rifles using Berger hybrids that have shown a wide, forgiving seating depth node here. A RUM with 245 eol's at .095", a 30 Nosler with 245's at .087" and just today, tuned a 6.8 Western with 170 eol's at .085" jump.

At the upper end for sure. Started seeing pressure signs at 58.5 if I recall correctly. I do only neck size and on the 4th firing primer pockets are still good.

Thanks. I'm at 58.8gr of RL26 pushing 160AB's and hesitant on increasing charge even tho there are no blatant red flags just slight ejector marks.Have another.280AI coming and would like to develop load with a heavier bullet. Thanks again

I did a lot of testing on different powders with this bullet in the 7 SAUM. Here they are.

Powder Nodes for 175 Elite's 7 Saum ADG Brass:
RL 26 63.3 2987' avg 0.31 moa
N565 63.8 2930' avg 0.22 moa
N560 62.9 2996' avg 0.25 moa
RL 23 61.6 2994' avg 0.28 moa

These are charges from the same rifle with a free bore of .195". Proof barrel 8.4" twist . There seemed to always be a node close to the 3,000' mark. COAL was 3.078" Hope this helps
