156gr Berger EOL Elite Hunter Reviews

Everything I have shot with the 156gr berger hasn't taken a step - 5 whitetails and 2 coyotes, ranges from 110yards to 383 yards. BUT I am running them at 3,156 fps in a 264 win mag. I would not personally shoot a 6.5 creedmoor at an elk, with any bullet.

I would suggest shooting a 270 win or 30-06 and even putting a muzzle break on there to help with recoil. My 115lb wife shoots a 6.5 lb 30-06 with no issues.

If the 6.5 creedmoor is all you have to work with, I'd go with a barnes bullet to ensure it held together and penetrated deep - the 120gr or 130gr ttsx would work great and you would be able to run them a little faster as well.

While I'm not a 6.5CM fan boy it is ballistically equivalent to the 270 Win which has killed thousands of elk with 130 -140 gr bullets over decades. Is either a long range elk catridge? Not in my opinion, but either is VERY capable at ranges under 500 yards.

Shot this guy last week with the 156 grain Berger out of my 6.5 Shehane. Muzzle velocity was right at 2900fps, and the shot was 270 yards, broadside. He was alive for 3 seconds and tipped over.

Took a whitetail doe this evening with the 6.5 SAUM, using the 156 Berger EOL, pushing 3030 fps using RL26 and CCI 250. Nice mature doe on the Eastern Shore of of Maryland. Just at 200 yards, slightly quartered to me. She dropped where she stood. The damage to her lungs was massive... pic below.

Shot him about a week ago in Colorado with my 6.5 SAUM using the 156 Berger. 350 Yards... he dropped where he stood.

Too much of a good thing for the "needmore", I think. Love the 130 VLD's in my 260AI, but planning on moving up to the 135 classics and or 129/142 ABLR. For Elk I would stay around 140's, that should get you out to 400/500.
