150 grain 3006...Who Shoots 150 Grainers?

A lot of people don't like Nosler ballistic tips due to damaged meat. My friends hate them but they shoot at a lot of running deer and quite frankly are not great shots. My 2 boys and I have taken dozens of whitetails with 150 grain ballistic tips from 100 to 650 yards and only 1 or two took even a step after being hit. We seldom shoot running deer and if you put it where it belongs you don't ruin any good meat.

I was torn between a .270 and .30 06. I decided on a .30 06 due to its bullet versatility and the fact an 06 can shoot a 150 grainer 3000 FPS which is pretty flat for whitetail.

Who shoots a 150 grain load for 06? I'm leaning on the Hornady SST for its BC and lethality in thin skinned game.
I started out with the Sierra 150 gr Gameking. Out to 200 yards all my whitetails were one shot kills. The outfitter lost the leases to those properties and got new leases on properties with some really long shots. I moved to 165 gr Nosler Partitions with about the same velocity as the 150's and got one kill performance again out to 600 yds. There are spots where a 1000 yd shot is a probability but my days of hitting at that range is low. My experience with the Gamekings shows me they are perfection for whitetails. I only changed because I wanted some more oomph at the longer distances. The noslers come in 150 as well.

150 Hornady SP 50 yards, started at at 2800 fps thinks it's a Partition. Exit hole shown.

This was the last buck I shot with this rifle in 2017. I like the 06 but I have other rifles I prefer to use more.

I use my '06 for my in the woods rifle. Rare to get a shot over 200yds. I've been using the Berger 155 Vld with no complaints. I have a Rem 700 with a 24 inch Shelin barrel. If I need to shoot further I can use my STW or 264 Win .

I shoot 150 grn barnes tsx and 150 nos bt's in my 30-06. I like the barnes a little better because most of the whitetails I shoot are less than 100 yds. I've been liking rl16 for powder with those.

I always loaded the 150s in my 06 for deer.
In my Ruger with a 22" barrel, I got 3010 fps with 150 ballistic tips. I haven't run that load over the chrono for my Cooper with a 24" barrel. It probably doesn't matter too much, the deer usually just crumple with the impact at ranges up to a couple hundred yards.

Whitetail hunting is not precision shooting so I use American Whitetail 150gr SP and American Eagle 150gr FMJ one X Bolt one and another X Bolt for the other.

Both Brownings shoot MOA at 100yrd which is more than adequate for hunting and punching paper.

Yes, the 06 is more than adequate for most North American hunting.
