130 vs 150 vs 168 Barnes TTSX

Interestingly Barnes doesn't use the same weight/design bullet for every application. Case in point, Their 30-06 150 TTSX shot exceptionally well in my Remy, so I bought some bullets to reload. After seating them exactly to the same COAL as factory loads the top groove showed. I emailed them asking about it. The reply was not what I wanted to hear…"the bullets for reloading are for 300 WM. They are not the same we load in our VOR-TX line". Stupid IMO!
He went on to say pretty that the 168 TTSX is designed for the 30-06 and 308 while the 165 TTSX is designed for the 300 WM. So I shoot the 165 TTSX in my 300 WM. They go completely through elk, but game as small as coyotes (see mangy picture at 181 yards) they open quick enough to kill.

Like I previously posted, if you look at those pictures, the 150 has a different ogive than the rest of the .308 line. However, be careful on reloading the first 168's they made in anything other than magnums. BTW, if you could buy Vor-tex ammo in 300 RUM, they use 165's now.

My problem is I use boxed ammo. 168 TTSX .308 from the Barnes box, and they did not open correctly on a bull Elk. 200 yards.
But I'm kinda stuck, because my Tikka absolutly loves them like none other.

It's like 168gr before & after. I'd rather shed weight like a partition, with total destruction along the way.

What rifle? That's all I run in my reloads. The boxed ammo I purchased were 165's, and they performed well, also.

I shoot the 168 TTSX in a 300WSM, performance across 30 animals has been perfect from 50lb pigs to 1900lb buffalo. In a 308 I would stick to the 150's or the 130's.
I couldn't get the 168s to group worth a darn in my 300 WSM. I dropped to the 150 and have had great results @3200 fps!
