***1000 YARD COLD BORE SHOT (This Saturday)****

Re: ***PICS ADDED 1000 YARD COLD BORE SHOT (This Saturday)****

I said I would show the results when I got back so here it is.
Let me know what you think (good or bad) .
Note : I cleaned my barrel then I shot one fowler shot but not at the target . Then a few minutes later I sent one towards the target . I wanted one in the orange but you will see where it landed . I think it would have still been in the kill zone but I want to get much better . I mis judged the wind . I dialed .75 MOA right windage

I also decided to shoot a 3 shot group .

After it was all done at the 1010 yard mark . we set up at 200 yards to shoot my father in laws 7mm . You will see his 3 shot group factory barrel with my hand loads.
there is one shot in the sticker from my 300 rum it is just a touch to the right so I oved it .25 MOA to the left.( I believe this has affected my shots at further distances .

Bonus pic of my target behind the tried and trusted GRIZZ for height comparison.

That's outstanding! Now just analyze it for hours like I do and figure out what it's going to take to get them on target. Make sure whatever program your using is accounting for spin drift and corriollis effect. If it's not then I'd bet that is the problem right there. Otherwise it's just adjusting your wind call a bit. Great job man!

I always start at 1060 milk jug, gong at 1100, milk jug at 1140 and anything else as a bonus that my friend Loosesniper has set up but the first 3 are always there. We shoot slight up hill so its easy to spot your shot. I take every shot as if i was bearing down on an elk for real. Most of the time i miss but always like to keep my misses close. Today i never hit a thing but i would of killed around 12 elk and almost as many deer. When you shoot consistant maybe say under jug to throw dirt on it thats a kill to me. A clorax bottle or milk jug sure isnt that big of target at 1k and over.

Was the wind FROM 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock?

3 o' clock to 6 o' clock I think I over read the wind .

I need to fine tune my N F software a bit .

I have a place that I can go and shoot 3,4,5,6,7, hundred yards then match that with what I have already and it should put me on real close.

Mike33 , I think I will try and hang a milk jug or 2 up@ 1010 and see if I can get lucky:)

I ran the #'s for my load at 1010yds. and if I were not accounting for spin drift and corriollis effect I would impact 8.9" to the right of my POA. That's about exactly where you were hitting so you should double check that.

How do I check it ? I use a pocket pc with NF installed. I dont know if my program even offers it or not ?

This is a good example of us being HUMAN!!! That first shot placement would LIKELY get the job done on anything larger then a mature deer but looking at your group, your shooting quite well, just the 3/4 moa off on windage. Had you NAILED the windage you would have been all over it.

This is THE reason that I designed the Allen Magnums. Its simply IMPOSSIBLE in most conditions to nail the conditions exactly. Only being off by 3/4 moa at 1K is not all that bad, in fact its pretty good!!! Extreme performance rounds just give you more of a margin of error when you do not get the conditions dead on the money.

Now the key is to know when the conditions are pushing the limits of your rifle/load combo at the range your shooting. That can be the most critical and often most overlooked aspect of long range hunting.

Practical Field Practice shooting is also great for teaching you your limits as well and that is a very good thing to learn before you go to the field.

Good shooting, nothing at all wrong with that group at +1K.

Somebody that's familiar with that program is going to need to chime in here. On my program you can turn SD and CE off. If they are turned off on your program and you did nail the wind call you miss by approx. 3/4 moa. Odds are you just mis judged the wind but if indeed your program is not accounting for these 2 factors then you'll never hit that target. Double check and let us know.

Thanks Kirby for the kind words.
Can I ask you what program you use to get your drops?
I can see were an Allen Magnum juiced up on Nitrous would make it easier:D

That would have sunk an elk like you torpedoed it gun) For spin drift choose options at the bottom, that will open up another screen and you can choose spin drift and enter a value, you can also input data for a Coriolis correction from the options menu.

What pocket pc are you using , im looking for a new one since mind took a crap.
mike

Dell Axim 30

Make sure you get as new as a model as you can find because supposedly the batteries for my model they dont make any more but I found the extended battery on ebay with no problem. I bought mine used for like $55.00 charger and all ame with leather case.

I've been wondering why you havent chimed in yet:)??
Is Broz okay ?? usually yall have added a little input by now:)

Thanks bigngreen I didnt know that I could adjust spin drift and Coriolis with my program. I have it in my lap as we speak.
