My buddy and I packed into a general Idaho unit on October 18th with camp and 7 days worth of food on our backs. It was a freaking grind. We did over 50 miles and 15,000' of vertical over the 7 days. He killed on day 3 and I killed a bull elk at 10:00am and my buck at 2:00pm on day 6. We got off the mountain at 9:00pm on day 7. This is pretty much the only way I like to hunt. We saw a TOTAL of 7 bucks. We were persistent with max effort every single day. We moved camp 4 times and ended up coming out a different trailhead completely and getting a ride to the pickup. It was an adventure that ended with sweet success for sure. I shot the bull in the head at 270 yards, so no real bullet performance details on that one. It killed him instantly.

I glassed the buck up bedded at 1000 yards. I can shoot long but don't prefer it. There was a ridge between us and him and we made the 40 minute hike to close the distance and when got over to the ridge he was 307 yards. Chip shot!!

I do appreciate your view point, but that gun is an extension of me and a main reason I get to do these massive, abusive, multi-day hunts with full confidence when a shot finally does present itself. It's not just a gun to me. It's the backbone of the whole hunt.

Actually, the gun in my buddies picture is a bit obtrusive. You're totally correct on that one. It was a super steep mountain and trying to get pics was a pain for sure!
