Discontinued: IMR Enduron powders.

I'd take the 7977 if we were close. The 1lb I have is deteriorating. Can smell it breaking down. There are still some 1lb 4955s and some 8lb 4955 and 4451 on the shelves at a couple of LGSs. I took off my 338 Edge barrel, so I'm not desperate for 8133 any longer, although it would be good in my .250 MDC wildcat.

What I REALLY wish I could find is Norma powder. MRP, URP, 205, and 217 especially.

Any idea as to why the 7977 is breaking down ? Was it opened previously ? Not stored in adequate temp ? Old powder ?

So according to Chris Hodgdon at SHOT last week, the Enduron powders are actually not fully discontinued 🤔 . He said at SHOT that they're just still really hard to get but they're working with their supplier (which would be General Dynamics) to get more supply of them soon. He recommended signing up to be notified when they come back in stock on their website.

I think after they originally decided to discontinue them, there was so much disappointment and backlash that they decided it was worth still trying to work with GD to get the powders when they can. I'm sure they're still prioritizing military contracts, but maybe they can indeed pump out some big lots for Hodgdon soon. I for one would be excited for that. I really like 8133 and need some more lol

This sucks. I've been a fan of IMR 4451 for years. It was a great powder in the .243 with 70-95gr bullets. It has also been hammering in my 6.5 Creedmoor.
I have 8lbs of 4451 Wouldvyou mind sharing your 6 5 creed load? I know it will probably be diffent then what my gun likes

Straight from the horse's mouth eh?!?!

That's good news. I also was a huge fan of 8133 with 220+ grainers in 300 winny and as an option for a future overbore wildcat I plan on trying someday hopefully not too far away. The .25-300 weatherby with 134 eld Ms in an 8 twist. Seen here; 25-06 Ackley improved, 257 wby mag, 25-300 weatherby mag.

Not sure why yet, as it was just announced, but Hodgdon will no longer offer any of the IMR Enduron product line of powders.

I can only assume General Dynamics (who makes the actual powder) can no longer keep making it for them. I know they used to make a lot of powder for Hodgdon and after they were awarded a huge defense contract they told Hodgdon they'd only be able to keep making the Enduron powders available to them. Perhaps they can't even do that now. It would explain why finding a lot of those powders has been extremely hard the last few months while others coming from Australia and Europe are still showing up here and there.

The Enduron powders are also made in Canada and it's possible with all the political mess going on up there it has played a part. That's purely speculation though.
I suspect this has been coming for a while, I wouldn't be surprised to find they've just let production contracts run out & then emptied their warehouse.

Every Enduron powder is similar to some other powder. There isn't one single characteristic that is a whole lot better than the alternative. It's a whole bunch of little things that are a little better - that's much harder to convince someone to change. Maybe they should have just made a Rev, or market it as a major improvement with some flashy labeling? You should retest if you get a different batch of powder anyway, right?

I bought a large jug of of 4166 on sale several years ago and I'm very pleased with it, I'll miss it but I probably have for my use.

Yeah 8133 is an awesome magnum powder, especially being double base and temp stable. Hard to go wrong with that combo.

They were IMRs only double based powders that I know of. I had amazing results with IMR-4166 but it hasn't been around in a long time and I've moved on.
