Knee Surgery

Of you all that have had a "total replacement" did they replace the knee cap as well?
I'm home dogz and all. Had the surgery, total joint replacement on December 3rd, and came home the same day. Just took a bird bath and came down stairs to answer your question about a kneecap. I asked my doctor and she said they do have knee caps but 9-10 times they just resurface the old knee cap. If the old knee cap is beyond re-surfacing they replace it with a synthetic knee cap.
I want to thank everyone for their help. I am doing well. Sore but ok! I am doing the exercises like a good boy even though it hurts. 3 times a day and I have the ice machine and man o man it helps!
Tomorrow I will take the outer wrapping off and have the first PT visit on Friday morning. They gave me hard drug pills but I only take 1 if I absolutely have to have one! Never been a drunk or a druggie.
Again, thanks to all.

Glad to hear you are doing OK! Hang in there. For a little while every three days it seems to improve, then 3 weeks and later 3 months.🤠

Got it memtb. Sent you a reply.
Had some friends come over yesterday to check on me and I was showing off by walking without my walker. This morning the pain block packed it's bags and went home! I hate pain meds but oxy and me have become tight buddies!
Yep dogz, ice is a new friend. I came down to the basement to send you folks a message that I made it and will be getting better from here on I hope.
I have P T tomorrow and am looking forward to getting better but I expect it to be a slow process.

Unfortunately I have had to be on pain meds for the past 20 years after breaking my back. I have figured out exactly how much I can take to ease the pain somewhat yet still allow me to function. One thing I can tell you that my doctors always stressed to me. Stay ahead of the pain. Waiting until it's killing you to take meds can run your blood pressure up and put a lot of stress on you.
Good luck with therapy. My wife loved the ice machine. I'm sure I'll put it to good use as well.

Going on 4th day and it's rough for sure. I got downstairs this morning with my wife's help as she carried the walker down and I got down the stairs just as P T showed me.
Saw P T yesterday and she said first 2 weeks is a bear but things start getting better after that. I feel I am already better than day 1 so maybe I will beat the 2 week deadline. I can only hope.
Going back upstairs folks, take care.
