Planning a 250 Savage Build - Two Barrels, Many Questions

With monos in general velocity is ur friend. With 10" twist bullets none of the bc changes over the bullet weights are gunna be big enough to make much difference out to 400.

Luckily now there are a number of monos that act more like lead bullets in game and gel. I see that trend continueing. Im hoping the Cutting Edge, Maximus bullets perform as i seen tested on youtube. Not high bcs but the on game performance is supposed to be there and they open at low speeds. My thinking is, if they open and function as designed down to 1400fps than they should be real effective at 1700 where I might use em.

Steve at Hammer bullets said Id be happy with the 92HH on deer n elk to 400yds out of a 250 Savage. This was before the HHTs came along so there may be a new 1st choice now.

Excellent info. Thanks for thinking about it and sharing. I'm trying to take it all in.

I'm really only interested in the solid coppers as I believe they are the future, much like non-toxic shot in public duck and dove hunting areas.

Your take on the 115VLD and 110ELDX is encouraging. I think that's where I'd like to focus my efforts. We'll see what the rifle gives me.
If you're looking at monos, I'd recommend the 92gr Hammer Hunter.

With the Berger VLD liking it close to the lands, I wouldn't worry about having the chamber throated. Aside from the Sierra 90gr BlitzKing, the Berger is my most shot bullet in the 250 Savage.

If you haven't used a Berger VLD on game, try it!!!
Bullet sized entrance hole, I haven't had an exit hole yet.
But the internal damage is massive!!
Utterly destroys both lungs and heart!

Some 92gr Hammer Hunter at a decent price.

Better get them before I do! Lol

What kinda speeds you runnin on the vld? From my notes I had the 117 sgk's going 2650. Only tried one or two powders tho. This thread me wantin to experiment with it some more. And I just found a box of 117SSTs I never did try.

I never did chrono them.
Worked up a load and just did dope sheet for different distances.
Really gotta change the scope on that rifle.
Right now it's a BDC reticle, that doesn't align with anything from the 250 Savage.
Need to put an MOA reticle on it.

The 117gr SST is supposed to be a stout bullet!
Built much differently than all the other SSTs.

Oh ya? Not sure I knew that. Its been a while. I might have bought em when I was also runnin a 257WBY. I killed quite a few deer with the 117spirepoint bt in that rifle. They dont go anywhere! Lol

I need to rescope as well. Much the same reason, i use this rifle in the timber and brush but its easy to pop out on a clearcut, or canyon and have a longer shot presented. I wanna be capable to the limits of the bullet/speed combo for sure.

250 Sav is a wonderful caliber. I just shot this big public land guy with my custom Ruger No.1 in 250 sav.
