Sitting 550 yards, cross canyon, Tikka T3x Superlite (originally 7mm-08) 284 win. Barnes 145 LRX handloads. I don't quite trust my Leupold CDS dial yet and my scope has a B&C Reticle so I went old school and used the top of the picket and 16 inches of holdover. Shot was low chest and cow went about 30 yards and folded up.

Used a tripod for the front rest and my pack across my thigh for rear support.

550 to me is LR. And the straight 284 is one of the most capable cartridges that not enough people know about.

I killed all 12 of my animals in Africa with my 284 (one of my custom Tikkas). And one of them was an 1800# Eland at 200 yards. Went 22 steps.

Congrats on the elk, and great shot!
