300 WSM

I've got a short barrel (16.5") Scout Rifle in 300 WSM I loaded with H4350.
I maxed out on velocity and case capacity without reaching any pressure signs.
Need a faster powder?
Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks, Dave.
Not a short barrel but this is my load for my Browning A-bolt IMR4831 62.0gr Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos 175gr 2.869 COAL

I killed a lot of game with my Tikka 6.5 X 55 with a 140 grain bullet going 2750 out of a 22"barrel out to 500 yards. To get more speed out of a 300WSM you need to have a longer barrel or switch to a 300 Mag of some sort . Its the old lipstick on a pig situation . 300 WSM is a great cartridge . If you are using a can those heavy charges will shorten its life and burn through your barrel fast . JMHO,Huntz

You could try IMR4350. It is a little faster burning powder and may make a difference in the shorter barrel.
I am loading 66grns behind a Serria 190gn Impact bullet getting 2960 fps in a 23" barrel.

Got out today and shot my 180g Partition load, 64.0g H4350, both at book measurement and .020 off. My rifle did not like the .020 jump but this is what it shot after a 2 shot confirmation at 200 (bottom 2 shots) then an adjustment

I appreciate the input & conversation on the subject.

This rifle happens to be a Factory built Ruger Frontier. I didn't whack 10" of barrel off one. It's kind of an oddball but something unique to play with that fits a niche in my hunting rifle lineup.

In addition to "Gun Love", Shooting & Hunting, I really enjoy the work of developing loads that achieve an optimum combination of accuracy & performance in my rifles. That's all my original post is about.

As is, terminal performance will be more than adequate, and I'm happy with the consistent sub-0.5 moa it's shooting.

If I come up with any noteworthy results from my work, I'll be sure to share with the group.

Dave-

What kind of speeds are you getting? I've had half a mind to get one at 12.5" and make an SBR out of it but there is practically zero short barrel data out there so I have no idea how much velocity loss to expect.

ADG Brass and 67.5gr H4350 in my rifle is getting 2930fps with the 165 Power Hammer and 2900 with the 165 Barnes TSX. Running about .6 moa with the Hammer, and a little tighter with the Barnes.

I'm leaving well enough alone until after my upcoming hunt, then I'll try some faster powder recommendations and probably drop a notch or two in bullet weight.
