7 SAUM w 180gr Berger Hybrids or 300 RUM w 230gr Berger Hybrids

Whichever one you are most confident in placing a perfect shot from a less than perfect shooting position.

Either set up will work great with a well placed shot,

Rum Man
i know you love the Rum but I can not believe you haven't tried that combo. It's like peas and carrots. You're gonna love it. Just don't shoot deer with that combo. You can run your arm through the carcass đź‘Ťđź‘Ťđź‘Ť

..this is not exactly a level playing field men....there's a huge huge difference between the two you listed...the 300rum is not for the faint of heart, is not a daily driver and not for everyone by a long shot...the 7mm saum is no where near it across the board and much easier to handle...NOT A GOOD COMPARISON IN MY OPINION

I don't think it was a comparison thread. It was "which one should I take for elk hunting".

Either will do the trick out to 700-800.

The RUM will just extend that range considerably, or add a lot of velocity, energy, amnd bullet weight at impact at the same distance.
The SAUM will be easier to shoot on the shoulder of the shooter. But not so much on the shoulder of the elk.

Agreed!

Thanks for the input guys, yah I wasn't trying to compare them - just getting some opinions on the best option!

I'm putting the finishing touches on a load for my 338 RUM as well - 225gr Accubonds at 3,050 fps out of a 22" barrel.

If that shoots as well at distance as I hope this weekend, It'll go as well.
