Who is still shooting 300 Win Mag

I couldn't hunt growing up because my relatives who hunted were just across the border in Saskatchewan and my folks WERE NOT going to pay $90 in 1986 for me to go whitetail hunting. In buying my first gun it was a friends dad, his grandparent and a friend took me out over 3 days with multiple guns. I gave them $70 for ammo which was all reloads done by the one guy. In the end I fondly remember shooting a Winchester model 70 in 300 WM. The recoil didnt seem like much (i was a big kid 6' 1" and 200 lbs) and i shot at this stump. I walked up and looked around the back of it and here was this MASSIVE exit hole. I just smiled in awe. Week later I bought my first rifle which was a Remjngton 700 BDL in 300 WM.

300 win mag, browning A bolt, 1976 ruger m77 , and weatherby 340 delux. 79 yrs young Still knocking em over.

Another guy (friend of friends grandparent) hunted with a Browning BAR in 270 Win. The story goes he shot a bull elk at 400 yards and it ran around 100 yards before it died. He DID NOT like that. So a day or two later he walked into the local sporting goods store and ordered/bought another BAR in 300 WM. He had a hell of a run with that rifle... he went 17 years with 3 shots per year. 1 to check the sight in. 1 for his whitetail. And 1 for his elk or moose. Then 1 year just as he was pulling the trigger to neck shoot a moose it steeped into a dip and he missed. It never left the dip.

I tried to get the rifle when he passed away but his son wouldn't sell it. I do own the the 270 BAR though.

The friends granddad, the granddaddy friend and the granddads son (friends uncle), all shot 300 WM.

Those old boys were masters at shooting and getting. There was always a rifle in their truck and any coyote, wolf, skunk, fox, etc was dead. They were constantly shooting!!! And if they could see it... it was dead!!!

I have a Red Hawk Rifles Alaskan ti clone in 300 win mag that I purchased after my deployment about 15 years ago. Hoping to get a brake put on it and do some load development with 215 Bergers and h1000 soon. If I remember correctly, it was sub half moa with factory 180 corelocks, so I'm excited to see what she does with handloads!

I have three .300 WM, and my go-to chambering from antelope to elk-size games up to 1KY.

I love my 6 300WM's, my REM 5R custom shop is unfired, they all produce different ballistics and loads, but the 3 I have that are custom chambered using the A191 reamer and throated for 215-230g pills are the best shooters in 3.7" or longer mag boxes.
BUT, I absolutely adore my 300RUM and 300 Weatherby, both are fantastic performers and have their own distinct likes and dislikes.
I really like my 300-416 Rigby Improved 35°, but it is getting the 40° treatment to help reduce throat wear.

Gen Z is bubble kids. My son is 1998. He can shoot a 7 mag but whines like an old woman if he shoots my 300 winnie. My son is twenty. Our hardest hitting rifle is a 300WM and it's his favorite. His next is a sporterized 1917 in 30-06 with a metal butt plate. He's a big fella, but a little crazy. Recoil doesn't bother him.

Just picked up my first .300 win mag. Been shooting a custom built 300RUM the last 15 years with great success.
Going to try some 200 grain Hornady ELDX when my scope comes in.

I have 2, a Browning A-Bolt II and a Ruger M77 MkII with the Zytel stock - both rifles were born in the mid-90's. We're inseperable despite the 30+ year age difference. Last year I transitioned to the Barnes 175gr LRX over a stout load of H4831SC. I run this load in 2 other 300WM's and all 4 shoot the load around .75moa

The Ruger is my absolute favorite Elk rifle, though I did take my first California Black Tail with it in a drenching rain storm. Shot through a downed Oak tree to bag him in one shot, through the neck, with a 168gr TTSX. That was a day to remember.

Took my first pig with the A-Bolt in Paso Robles, another day to remember. I'll always have these 300's - it's a very versitile round with excellent rifles being made to run it.

It's a Sig Cross.
