Who is still shooting 300 Win Mag

Well I can't say. Won't be here till Monday.
I was lucky enough to have one of the guys going on our elk hunt to have bought one so I got to mess around with it. Seems like a well made scope for the money. We shall see.

I've got a fine one. Sig SHR 970. As soon as I can find a magnum bolt for my Impact action, i'll be getting a 300WM barrel for that one too.

Here's a picture of my first custom rifle. It's a GAP Non typical in 300 Win Mag. I just wish I would have known to get a custom chamber instead of a sammi to have more room for the 215 Berger. It's the one rife I will never sell. Everyone needs to have a 300 Winchester Mag.

In the early 1980s I read an article that was written by Bob Hagel I think. Anyway the article was about long throating the 300 WM and loading it to an OAL of 3.6 inches so that's what I did. I had a Douglas 26" barrel installed on a left hand 700 Remington action and it's throated for the 180 Partition with the base of the bullet at the juncture of the shoulder/neck .
That bullet and IMR 7828 powder have served me well over the years and yes I am still a 300 shooter.

that bullet and IMR

I love my 2 300Win Mags. I've taken to Africa several times and they are good for most plains game and have used them on crocs. Last year in Spain I used one on Ibex.. Another good reason to have a 300 mag. that if you lose luggage on travel and I have, it is easy to find the ammo in other countries. I still hunt with it and enjoy the caliber. I do not shoot over 500 yards as I rather stock the animal than shoot long ranges, but that's me.

I'm happy to report that yesterday I took my first ever bull elk with my .300 win mag!!! 225 Eldm put him down hard. I hit him twice but the second shot was totally unnecessary. 320 yards, he never left his tracks. First shot rocked him, and he sort of wobbled and shook his head. Second shot poleaxed him.

MEAT THIS WINTER!!! 😁😁😁😁
