Better have done your due diligence though and know a thing or few about training bird dogs. I can't tell you how many disobedient, bird flushing, non-retrieving, dead quail eating $2,000 bird dogs I've seen in the last 45 years.

A $1000 gun purchase will not break your heart when it is gone, but the dog will. Believe me, I know, as I did it nearly 15 years ago. My Karelian Bear Dog will turn 15 next month. I love my dog and his unconditional love. I do not look forward to the inevitable day nor think I am prepared for it. I agree with @Rick Richard, good luck with the decision.

I'm thinking that, as we have two "lap dogs", I'd seriously consider that as a very good downpayment on that handgun I've wanted for quite a while.

memtbI've been there many times brother,I feel for you and want to tell you it will get better with time. Great Danes only live about eight years on average the larger they are the shorter the lifespan so I know exactly what you mean.
Ruger is my latest, I needed him to help me get over the loss of bullet.I got him from a shelter so he needed me just as much! He is the 13th Dane in my life.

A new gun won't greet you at the door every day and make you feel like a million dollars with its devotion. I really enjoy my firearms, but I really love my Golden. They don't call them "a man's best friend" for no reason.

Sweet! Handsome pup and her retriever.
Guns are inanimate, dogs are life. A dog is always there through thick and thin, Brody is turning 9 soon and I fear that day when I'm without him, he's not a hunting dog he's simply my best friend and stood by through some tough times.
