My next centerfire rifle….may well depend on what shows up on the auction site I frequent 
Nonetheless a .300 RUM of some kind is on the short list.
As for old rifles that I'm always keeping my eyes open for:
Of particular desirability to me would be an old Savage 99 in good condition chambered in .250-3000 savage or .358 Winchester. To a lesser extent the .300 savage as well, but the 250 and the 358 models Just have such a cool factor to me, I do hope to obtain them before I die. We never know when our time is up. I'm turning 32 in a few weeks, Lord willing I've got some time haha.
And in the intermediate future, not for a few years but not decades down the road either: my first build, will be based on a 32 inch bartlein .257" barrel I got for pretty cheap very lightly used. It's in 25-06 ai at present. I'm going full hot rod just cuz I've never done that before. Either a .25-300 weatherby, .257 stw, or .25-300 RUM. Leaning most strongly to the .25-300 weatherby (and PETERSON makes 6.5-300 wby brass being one of the big reasons why). I already have a 24 inch barreled .257 weatherby. A 32 inch 25-300 weatherby ought to go FAAAAAST!!!!

Sorry, couldn't pull from any of the list above. 270 win #1, 35 whelan #2. These 2 rounds represent 55 years of hunting. The whelan coming later when remington introduced it as a factory round.

Well I answered this thread but that was last year and things change haha!
My next centerfire will be one of five cartridges in one of three rifles.
270 - there's a beautiful Sauer 100 hardwood at the store I work at that I'm strongly considering as an upgrade to my existing savage 111 270. I had almost parted ways with that cartridge but cannot do it, @Muddyboots and @ButterBean have been positive influences towards making sure one always has a .270 in the arsenal. Sho nuff.
.308 or 6.5 creedmoor. Can't believe I'm entertaining the manbun and am still leaning toward the .308 but it's another Sauer 100 we brought in that I'm in love with. The "Pantera" model, it has a shorter and heavier contour fluted barrel than standard at 20 inches, and the one I want is an upgraded version that has a very nice HS precision fibreglass stock. I don't really have a compact all purpose accurate hunting rifle at the moment. This would fit the bill.
300 win mag or .300 PRC. In the bergara b14 HMR. Having worked with them now and handled a few and set a few up with optics for customers….this is the one I want. It'll be an upgrade to my savage 111 long range hunter .300 win mag which is gettin kinda old and, well, familiar. I want to try something new. The bergara is a hell of a lot of rifle for the price point, honestly now that I handle a lot more rifles than I used to and get to hear feedback both positive and negative from people at the gun counter I'd spend my money on Sauer and bergara as being way more bang for your buck than anything new production from Winchester, browning, Remington, weatherby, tikka, ruger, savage
This is assuming equivalent price points, no doubt there are very fine rifles at much higher price points but at the price of the Sauer 100 and bergara b14 series I don't see anything in the others that would make me choose their product instead.
Leaning toward the .300 win mag just because it's what I know, it's not broke and doesn't need fixing. I have dies and brass. That being said I do actually see great merit the .300 PRC and it has a factory standard faster twist rate and I do like the 225 eld m in my winny but the dang thing is halfway into the powder column! I dunno…we'll see

That's a thought that's crossed my mind too! But then won't it require single feed only as the cartridge itself will be very long compared to magazine length? I suppose that's not the end of the world but kinda defeats the point of a repeater.Throat the winnie my friend. Throat the winnie. Viola
