Problem with the 7 saum is you can't seat long bullets out of the powder and into the lands without a custom reamer/throat. And you definitely can't fit them into a short action magwell once you do.
Short action is just too short to support the COAL that is req'd for the 180+gr high bc bullets...
I'm super excited about this cartridge.
My custom 28 nosler is too overbore. This will be the sweetspot that many have been waiting for. Yeah it is the modern age 7 rm (long throat, fast twist, heavy bullet, non-belted). This is very welcomed and not to be understated.
For those having...
Hi just got back from a gator hunt this last year.
Local game biologist/ wardens recommended 20ga steel shot #6 standard loads. This was to reduce damage to the meat/hide. It doesn't penetration as deep but still has plenty of umph to instantly dispatch them. THIS WILL NOT PENETRATION SKULL...
I agree with many on here that 7mm is the sweetspot for the spectrum of species you describe. The 7 PRC will be out in a few months. I would wait for that. That's what I'm doing before making any more moves. Has many advantages over the 7 RM. That's saying a lot.
My 2 cents...
I have a 28 nos.. I ignored the concerns about "too overbore" at first but here is what I learned and why I will change directions going forward...
You will need to do load development more often than you might be thinking. I was out of my accuracy in just 10's of shots (don't...
From all that I have read, if you are willing to break you will be fine in a 30 cal magnum. Remember, not all brakes are equal. Some are more effective/punishing than others. I pretty much hate them which is unfortunate, because they do allow you to caliber up for the same rifle weight. For...
You could do what I'm doing. I'm in the same boat love my 6.5 creed (actually a 6.5x47 Lapua-ballistically same) and want to have a capable long range suppressable barrel length....etc same as you.
I'm waiting on the 7 PRC. It will be here soon. (Def less than 1 yr) possibly summer release...
I guess what I'm saying is I don't worry about blood trails as much in my ladder days. I put greater emphasis on shot placement and experience has taught me that they all expire within 60yds with a double lung shot, so tracking really isn't a big issue. If I want blood cause I'm in thick brush...
Yes, this is THE issue with these bullets. They don't expand at as low of velocities vs the eldm/berger stuff. So I don't consider them "long range" bullets. But they do represent the extreme end of penetration.
There is no perfect bullet my man. Anyone who tells you diff is full of it...
This is easy. Shoot the TTSX (or perhaps the GMX). These are 100% weight retention bullets. The 120gr WILL (except for the most extreme shot angles/game sizes) exit WITH velocity leaving great exit wounds. Aim at the lower third for the best blood trails. Watch your beyond your target...
