Federal 7mm PRC 170 Gr Terminal Ascent

It has a lead core but a copper shank.

That looks like an outstanding design! Can't tell metallurgy from just looking at it, but if it turns out to perform well on impact it would be awesome if Federal offered the component for reloading.

So…the ammo sucked in my rifle.

Rifle:
Hells Canyon Armory build
Tikka action with a new trigger spring installed
24" HCA Carbon barrel.

Velocity is well over advertised:
3020 on cold cleaned barrel
3045
3065
3081
3054
3081
3064
3033
3094
Chrono did not read the last shot for some reason.

Not counting the cold clean barrel shot it was an ES of 61.

Group was around 2" for the 10 shot group at 100 yards. (I'll measure when I get home)

Shot three handloads (all I had)
170 Gr hammer Hunter tipped over 65.5 gr of N560

3013
3014
3018

ES of 5 and grouped .3" (I'll measure when I get home). Like I said, that's only 3 shots for handloads so not a fair comparison but I have shot 10 shot groups with ES of 15 and way smaller groups than 2" haha.

Overall thoughts of the factory ammo….awesome bullet but crappy ammo.

That's unfortunate. I don't know much about this bullet, so I wonder how forgiving it tends to be for reloading (when/if it comes out). These are pretty expensive, even as a component, but I like the design.
