Choice of caliber for coyotes

My pulsar has the laser rangefinder that brackets the target and gives consistently accurate distance readings, but a coyote at 400 will look like a mouse. Mine is the Trail XQ38 LRF model, which was about $3800 new 2 years ago

my pic is a 22-250 in an Ar15 platform.
point blank ballistics to 300 yards....and then a magazine of follow-up shots should they be needed.
Not conducive to volume prairie dog shooting for barrel burn up reasons, but the 22-250 will last a lifetime just shooting yotes.

50gr nosler ballistic tip @ 3600fps = yote jelly

Nice. Is that a UMAR?

I have the same grip on my TAC 6 and 224V. I like them.

If you
I love my .223, but my fav coyote rifle is a .243 shooting 55 gr bullets at 4K. Normally I am not a fan of light fast bullets, but in this case this load is better than a .223 shooting the same weight. Puts them down pronto as well.
If don't mind changing barrels consistently..

My first designated gun to hunt yotes was a RRA Varmint 20 inch 223 wylde it loved 75 grain hollow points. farthest kill was 425 yards. Guaranteed sub 1/2 moa and did not fail. That being said the 6x45 or as others call it 6mmx223 with 70 or 75 grain pills, and the 6.5 grendel with 90 or 100 grain bullets do amazing also. Every time I go to the gun room I have to spin the wheel to see who gets to come out and play. LOL!

I use a 22 creedmoor with a thermal with a 250 yard zero I just hold on coyotes from 0-315 yards, I havnt found anything easier for night hunting, 3500 with 75 eldm, flat and good in the wind

It's always great fun reading the posts when someone throws an open ended query out like this one. And educational as well.

I just learned here that the 22 Creedmoor is ballistically similar to the 22-243. Some time ago I had a beloved Sako L579 rebarreled to the 22-243 Middlestead 1:8 twist. I love the rifle and the round. I load the same 75 gr ELD-M's at 3500 fps.

Since I haven't seen anything here on the 22 Nosler, I'll voice my support for this round. Mine shoots 55 gr Nosler BT at 3400 ft/sec. On an AR platform, I get the advantage of a quick follow-up. Been my go to coyote gun for 5 years or so. If it's not a good coyote round, I'm too dumb to know it.

So I assume a 22 Creedmoor could be built on an AR-10 platform? That sounds like a winning combo.

I fast .22, or 243/6mm will work fine to 400. Always windy here & shots are sometimes up too 600 so I use a 6.5 PRC match round. Of course things may change in the future with the great ammo shortage or 2021 & 2022. I can't find 6.5 PRC anywhere.....

What are the details of your 6x45 rifle? Also would you mind sharing your load data? Thanks
Using lake city loaded to 2.26. 8208 26.2. 26.3 is better but not consistent seating depth. Compressed where you have to tap it a fair amount. It's a 18" xcaliber barrel. Using basic rcbs dies. Brass looks good. I rarely get an exit. They rarely spin and run off. I also shoot a 6x6.8 with 58s going 3450 but the 6x45 is too easy and i don't have issues with being overgassed.

Lol I have given up on soft side rifle cases, and I have 3 of RA grips too. The third is on a Savage BA SE.
i have a soft camo double AR case from Voodoo tactical. Better have your stud card handy if you want to pack a 14# and 11# AR with a few magazines in the side pockets. Also has a attached compartment for a CZ scorpion.
30-35 lbs of hardware

I have had good luck on coyotes out to 350 with the 50 and 53gr Vmax at 3200 fps out of my 18" 1-8" AR. If the shots will be longer, my Tikka Varmint with a 1-8" with the 53gr Vmax at 3450 or the 75 gr ELDM at 3025 does the job. I am using a Super Yoter and I missed one at 150 yards the other night. She stopped at a little over 300 and I dumped her with the 75 gr ELDM. Tennis ball exit in her neck and she didn't take a step.
