Got a reedbuck in Africa at 55. They are pretty small and he was bedded down hiding in the grass. It was a fun stalk and hunt.

My max range kill was a nice Ohio 8pt at 42 yards. I've never felt comfortable enough with my skill level to shoot over 50 yards at an animal. I watched a 160"+ whitetail breeding a doe at 55 yards....too far for my skills. Felt like a pervert but all I could do was watch.

Been hunting with recurves and longbows for almost 45 years now and have been blessed over the years to take whitetail deer, turkey, bear and mule deer with my bow. All were under 20 yards, but have to admit I have been busted more times than I released and arrow.

Shot a 6x6 bull at 57 yards, quartering away, went through liver and hit off side lung. Ran 150 yards leaving a great blood trail and died in 20 to 30 seconds. I usually try to get in close to kill elk / deer, but this was a perfect situation and day 11 of a long tough hunt. Good times !

I recently guided a client that was consistently killing pigs and feral donkeys at 90+, very impressive to witness!

I recall someone saying once that a 20 yard bow shot was like a 200 yard rifle shot, a 30 yard bow shot was like a 300 yard rifle shot, 40/400, 50/500 and so on.

All in the practice like everything else.
