I only have 2 short barreled setups at the moment. As for deer hunting 6mm's are plenty and easy to drive.
6 Dasher 16.5" barrel. Killed 3 deer and a pile of coyotes with it.

And a 270sherman short with 19" barrel. My wife has used this for 3 years on cow elk hunts and been successful. I've also killed a few elk and pile of deer and couple bears with it.

My 308 has a JCS stock on it and LOP is the standard 13.5".

IT looks shorter than that in the one photo. Thanks for clarifying. I always feel more comfortable around 12" of LOP. Then again, I have tiny t-rex arms.

The 6 dasher in my photo is 13.25" i belive. I had it made short also.

Not quite as short as you are looking at, but a 20" .260AI.
140 Hyb @ 2914fps. Take 50-100fps depending on your final barrel length of choice. Plenty for deer at 500.

Or what about a 25MBK (25-260AI)? Mine is a 22", running a 131 SMK @ 2988. Take off 100fps for an 18".

Need a little more HP?
20" 6.5SS pushing a 130 OTM @ 3075fps. 12.5" LOP on the Manners EH1.

Hard to go wrong with a 260AI or a 7-08 but if it were me I would be building a 284 Winchester. LOTS of flexibility, plenty of gas if you get out west up up north and elk or moose is on the table. I have a 16" 284, runs 160 grain bullets at 2750 comfortably with H4350. 140's for deer can be pushed quite a bit faster.
