Full auto is fun to shoot, but I cannot shoot accurate that way. I went to the range with the German military to qualify with the G3. Full auto was the first part of the qualification at 25 meters. I did qualify at the center of the pack, but percentage of hits were pretty low. Shooting on semi auto those G3s shot pretty good.

i was in gunshop here awhile back in Montana. They M-2 and a Saw in there. The M-2 was or is $60,000.00 and the Saw was $100,000.00. They were fully operable and full auto. First what makes those firearms so pricey? i don't see the Army or other paying that much for a autoloader to start with. I do reallize that a special Lic is require and a lot of work to get it. I am to old now to even worry about getting the permit to have one.
Now I am not a gunsmith by any means, but I sure as hell use AR-15 and Car-15 in Vietnam. At one time I could shot from the hip out to a 100yds and make most of the rounds count.
I am not totally for sure that an m-4 can be convented to full auto with a little work. Don't be me wrong, I wouldn't even try that or have it done.
For $1,000.00 you can purchase a m-4. So again what or how do they justify wanting that much for a Full Auto.

They gave us some standard full auto M14's. We got to shoot them for fun and to show what we could not hit going auto.
Those were some BA rifles.
M-14 is a different rifle. It's 308 cal. They are heavy, I only use it in Basic. We change the M-14 over once to shoot Fullauto. Only one time and my rifle jam. I did shoot expert with it. Range was out to 400meters with the M-14. Tghe first time I tried an M-15E1 I didn't shoot it very much. I shot sharpshooter with it for full auto.
I used an M-60 in the air as a doorgunner, when I got the chance. One evening we were out looking oiver some country the an ARC Light was going in. in the mornimg. There a firefight on going coming back. They were asking foi suppression fire from any chopper in the air. We were about 2000' in the air. There was some fire burning below, and they want the suppression fire in those areas. They were with about 50yds away from the fires. So they gave me the job to do the suppression fire. It took me about 30 sec to open up with the M-60. We are flying in a circel and I had to account for where the bullets were going and not hit our troop below. The officers back where I was came on after me getting done. He said he almost couldn't believe somebody could lay down and put it on the money. The only thing was I didn't get any chain back.😁🤣 Sure stop all the green tracher going out. I don't know if I got anybody or not. I was more worried about friendly fire from me. Follow the red line. 😄

No special license or permit required to own a transferable MG. Just fill out a form ( exact same paperwork as a suppressor) and wait for the government to do the background check and send you the tax stamp. In reality all you really need is a clean record and $$$. The reason those guns were so expensive is they were transferable MG's, by that I mean they were manufactured before May of 1986 and put on the national MG registry. Civilian's can only own transferable MG's and the price has skyrocketed in the last 10 years. In 2010 I almost had a deal worked out for a Mac 11, Sten, and a m-16 for $8000 but my 25 year old self would not come off the money. If I owned those three guns today they would be worth around $50k.

LOL.....I shot M14/M1A's for many years in Nat'l Match Course, and owned and used various Standard and Match versions and fired the old Nam 14's in full auto from the bipod. The recoil in auto makes a "match" chamber/barrel rather pointless, and the best way we were taught and found to "control" the 14 in auto pone was to raise the butt plate up and place it over the top of the shoulder. This did aide somewhat, to keep the rounds in a beaten area.

I guess owning a match 14 for semi-auto accurate fire but have the ability to also go rock-n-roll when events demanded could have its benefits.
I'm no metallurgist or gunsmith, but if you did have a match accurate m-14, if you started rock and rolling on full auto very often I don't think it would still be match accurate? Isn't that why people bring multiple rifles when shooting prarie dogs because they don't want to heat up their bolt actions?

Supply and demand. The laws decrease supply and demand keeps the price up. You just have to find the right buyer with deep enough pockets and the desire.

M60's were fun to shoot. I shot one at the range that got hot enough to keep shooting after I let go of the trigger. The drill instructor was sitting next to me to snap the belt off to stop shooting. It was for demo purposes. Then we changed the barrel.
The early Colt receiver had small dimples where the holes had to be drilled. Later castings had to be machined out and measured carefully or the firearm would jam on select fire. Shooting at the range all day when the military paid for the rounds was fun. My pay for a month probably would not cover the ammo costs for a day.
Wasn't having fun when I shot those hogs......

As a Marine recruit who could shoot, my first issue M14 had a selector. Rifle was reliable on full auto but the muzzle rise was pretty much uncontrollable. We were sent to "quick kill" school before Vietnam to learn how to start low and work up. 20 round magazines in those days. Shortly thereafter, we were reissued brand new M16s and had to requalify. M16 on full auto was much easier to control. As I recall, the 10 ring was 24" at 600 in those days. Sure was kind of fun to shoot those when you grew up around guns. Now, I think all the M4s are select fire with only 3 round bursts. The one thing that sticks in my mind is how heavy a full load out of ammo is to carry.

Many years ago I bought a new HK91 (semi auto G3) for $640.00. It was a handful shooting semi auto. It had a 3 position selector . It had the fluted chamber to hold case for pressure. Screwed them up for Reloading. It was fairly accurate. I sold it like a dummy.

Thanks for your Service!
I really like the M-14 but the Corps changed over to the M-16.
When I was processing out of the Corps i had a friend in the armory. He offered to give me the shear & trigger parts to make AR 15 Auto. Back then in the 70s you could get a Colt AR with the dimples already marked to drill holes for the pins. I declined because i didn't ever want a Black rifle again and the cost of on AR 15 was almost a Months salary for a Sargeant at the time. I should have taken the parts anyway. I now own several ARs.
M-16
I carried 13 - 30 round mags and two bandoliers. I was dammed if I ran out of ammo. Utility web belt was heavy with (4) loaded mag pouches, a canteen and med kit.. but we had sort of like suspenders attached to hold them up. Plus a worthless Flak Jacket.
