Winchester Model 70 Post 64 Controlled Feed Issue

I have a newer Win. Model 70 that does not feed unless you load it like you are mad at it (Don't ask how I know). When you move the bolt slow to moderately the case head does not seat completely under the extractor claw and will not chamber without gouging the brass to the point there are shavings in the chamber area. Any suggestions?

Factory ammo or reloaded ammo, or both?
If both, give some money to a competent M70 controlled feed action gunsmith.
He'll fix it. Or if it's new, may tell you to return it to the manufacturer.

I'm loading from the magazine. The gun has a hinged floor plate. It's my understanding you shouldn't single load a controlled feed action by hand. It appears that the cartridge only covers 3/4 of the bolt face when you work the action slowly to look for the issue. I have tried reloads using Hornady brass and Remington factory loads to eliminate the possibility of bad brass and the spring tension seems adequate and even across the feed ramp. This leaves me stumped at the moment.

Do you have a feeler gauge? I'd check clearance between the extractor and boltface.

Sometimes people try to extend the magazine box, but don't solder the magazine back together after removing the spacer. The result is a magazine that is too wide...?

I do not have a feeler gauge but I have access to an optical comparator. I plan to take the bolt and check the clearance tomorrow. I can manually push case into the extractor but it is tight. If I work the bolt slow it eats the side of the case because it is dragging but when I work the bolt fast the side of the case looks fine but the rim and the belt (264 win mag) have considerable gouges. If it were not for the gouges there I would just work the bolt fast and move on but they severe enough I would never reload them. I agree on finding a good gunsmith just thought it might be something simple i was overlooking.

I know this is a old thread but one stated the obvious. The CRF'ed model 70's must be loaded from the magazine, you can't lay a round on the follower like a 700 or other actions. Or you will have the issue you described.
