If Wyoming wants better hunting, they should make the residents follow the same rules as a nonresident when they buy a tag for an area or a region, they should have to stay in that area not get to hunt the whole state that how states do it that have good hunting.

There is some talk of doing that for General deer season. Antelope is already area specific for residents. We do have great hunting here. One just needs to learn when to stay away from certain areas…….opening few days, weekends, etc….

And maybe let us (residents) accrue points for deer and antelope like NR can! When we don't draw a draw area, we are back to square one... so we cannot build points for a good unit like NR can.

That may be an option as well. It would definitely lighten the hunting pressure in some hunt areas

Talked to a friend of mine in Jackson a week ago. So far this year they've had 500 inches of snow. Record is 600 in the early 90's! Granted that may be at the top of the mountain but still a lot. Fwiw, I just forked out about $1700 for an oryx application in New Mexico so the new elk NR prices are in line.

We have had about 225" at my house at 6500 feet.
Last two years we have been cheated…..ma nature catching us up this year

I have hunted region G for 40 years up to about 20 years ago you never saw mean residents in the backcountry only diy nonresidents and outfitters then along came the big deer in the western part of the state now their is more people from Wyoming then ever and if they don't see a good Buck the next forked horn is dead.

Yes, it's pretty ridiculous how people have lost their minds hunting "Monster Mule Deer".
I went to a G&F meeting locally (Area G) 2 weeks ago. Out of the mule deer they had collared in December there were 20% of the fawns still alive, 80% of does and 65% of bucks. Gonna be a tough one for trophy hunters in 4-5 years……
As I think you mentioned earlier they may want to think of making residents pick an area. Hunters from the eastern part of the state can come here and hunt mule deer and also go home and hunt whiteys later. There's talk of making them choose. I'm primarily an elk hunter but during the few times I do venture into the Greys River while rifle deer hunt is on I'd tell you that 30-40% of vehicles are from Casper and Cheyenne areas…

G&F figures show non resident hunters WAY down in last few years and they can prove that through tag allocations. I don't think they have any honest way to count resident hunters in our area.
They are also kicking around mandatory harvest reports. They said that last year they received responses from only about 29% of hunters they sent surveys to

I started out hunting here about 25 years ago and it's DEFINITELY not the same as it was. One has to look harder and harder to find really big bucks and it doesn't seem to matter where or how remote you go someone else almost always has had their eyes on the bucks too

I hate to say it but it's kind of going that way everywhere over 20 years in Tennessee. I don't see near the turkeys or the good deer that I used to.

Why should a resident of a 'free state' have to apply for a generous opportunity of being sportsman chasing a 'dream adventure'.......some of us don't shoot immature animals "just because I don't want to go home empty handed"....
I've burnt thousands of dollars passing immature animals only to spend monies in smaller communities to chase critters in different parts of the state......
That's my choice if I spend 1500$ in fuel/food/housing....not some NR to determine for me.....
Think your money is more green than the rest of ours......

It's one nice thing about Tennessee. You can apply for quota hunts in certain areas but really the only tag I apply for is the elk hunt you buy a hunting license and you have a state area bag limit no tags.

Most Eastern states are that way... maybe all of them, no? As a resident of that state you go to the local store or purchase a license online and you hunt any area of the state. (the new elk tags states excluded)

They just don't contend with tens or hundreds of thousands (cumulatively) non-residents vying for their game animals in the proportions that Western states have to deal with.

I'm in Star Valley. 6400 feet at my place

Pinedale is at 7300ft and I've seen low 90's in Aug and it felt like a 100, lol. I've originally from hot and humid Atlanta. Very little humidity but it still gets pretty warm in late Aug / Sept.
