Good points, IMO if you use a bullet enough sooner or later they'll do something that makes you go hmm........................

Most all of them will do one just fine. There isn't any real magic in any of them.

I like doing my business locally and I think that they're customer service is off the charts and I'm a fiend for that.
Very true. Each type has its pros and cons. Bergers and ballistic tips are great for shredding vitals with the super frangible designs. But personally not my cup of tea in case the presented shot is heavily quartering.

Barnes are great for penetration but obviously a smaller wound channel.

Bonded bullets are in between.

I think the hammers do a great job of giving you a lot of penetration while also expanding the wound channel a bit with the petals. With the added bonus of keeping lead bits out of the meat.

There is no "best" unless you can control every single shot situation and pick the bullet style that you prefer best. For me i like barnes or bonded bullets like scirocco. Hammers give me most of that weight retention with the added benefit of the petals so for now theyre going to be my go-to all around hunting bullet. Not to mention theyre fast, easy to load for and accurate as hell

This whitetail had his heart blown to bits by a 124 HH from my 6.5PRC. This is the guy that went about 100yds zig-zagging through the woods.

IMO - heart shot animals react totally unpredictable.
The hammer bullet will also out penetrate the BARNES , a proven fact , the Hammer has less resistance once the petals are shed .

Gday
I like this & use to do a similar thing & have for around 30 odd years on so many brands & critters
Tried a little on hammertime but logistically it's hard so tip my hat to you Ed this is good
Moving forward

Really I'm probably not a good person to add to these data sheets

This is due to I just like testing these days & really don't hunt much or place shots where I really want as if I do that you just don't get as good of data imo

When I first joined hammertime my bangflop ratio was extremely high for a bit then I got corrupted into placing shots that I don't like & try to avoid & this disease I have of searching for the holy grail of pills was better suited to me doing this imo so I was in yep totally corrupted

today overall I wait for bad angles or hyped up critters to get my data on the majority I take now as I just can't shoot enough compared to years gone by to get the bad shots that normally occur that produce less than ideal results eg for me out of a 100 critters I'd get 1or 2 real bad & total about 10% off the mark from where I'd like to place the shot with this increasing past 750 ish
Today I'm hard to get to let alone past 500 as I just don't like trying to read the wind anymore along with my trigger skills have dropped off & really I'm a 2 zone pbr ( range & wind ) or it walks as another won't be far away I hope

Maybe this might help explain why my data might not help

I had great discussions with harperc & we were on the opposite ends of the great sectional density debate
So off my previous experience on cape buff & 200 gr pill & Carl coming from the heavy 350 gr we were going tit for tat so only way to settle was take a asiatic buff or 2
Well didn't I learn how hammers preform on asiatic & ate my words
200 gr SH out off h&h My son dropped 1st cow bangflop high shoulder on run in a billabong so she wasn't going real quick but cool next a cow flat chat & she dropped in a cloud of dust high shoulder again ( cns both ) & I've got those particular horns from that trip in my avatar yes proud dad

Mmm going well I thought & out of a mob a Mickey bull gave me a opportunity with my rum & I hit him behind the shoulder & didn't even flinch but didn't get another shot off
So a MILE latter !!!! we found him standing in a another billabong another shoulder shot 1/2 way up leg & it just didn't worry him & went deeper into water so 3rd shot he finally went down ( cns )
I'll leave the boring details of why this occurred but neither Carl or I were right but what was found out has set us up understanding why we were wrong

Now moved that 200 gr SH over to donkeys & man first up 7 from 7 all bangflop & the angles all the way around the clock

That's the worst run I've had with hammers & totally accept I was wrong but also a few runs with prototypes that will never make the market as already better pills out there ( not current prototype that's real good ) but also some extremely good results just don't know if it's data worth tainting the above chart from Ed 🤷‍♂️
Myself no I don't like as a mile run & that's it I'd swear off that pill on the surface but I know that no pill brand has put asiatic on the ground quicker when you get it right

I'll grab some old charts & give a idea of what I used to gather to form the opinions I have on how a pill actually preforms
I use to break down to 200 fps brackets & a minimum of 10 critters per bracket
This I can't do anymore as I just don't shoot enough critters today but if you guys put good data in you will get some impressive data out
Then you will find the pills that not only kill you'll find the ones that really hammer them

Cheers

Gday
Here's a few of my old data sheets

I put these ones up as to not create the conflict that occurs on here so with these pills no one can basically get them anymore well in Aussie so I should be safe 🤷‍♂️🫣

I've got 50 tons of fert going on today so I'll come back & explain how I derived @ those sheets
I'm not saying you have to do it this way & I think you can also improve on them just some food for thought
Cheers

Whitetail Doe hit 80yds no step.
250lb boar hit 265yds. no step. (Hammer Trail reported by witness)
250-275 boar hit 15yds on charge, entry & exit same side from front to rear. 40yd run to crash site. Crime scene of blood:D
4 180-200lbs hogs hit 80-150yds on the run, DRTs some bulldozed to a stop.

I'm hesitant to report this. But in the spirit of transparency, I will.

Had my first hammer failure last week.
30 cal, 124 HH, 4200 fps. Distance was 150 yards. Solid rest, patiently waited on the perfect shot on swine, light was fading fast, had to turn the fire dot on low. The seconds seemed like hours. Over a dz of the habitat destroyers were plowing in front of me. Finally, the 2 I was after made their mistake. One facing left, one facing right, lined up. I was blinded by the muzzle flash of dang near 100 grains of 4350 as I touched the trigger. I immediately grabbed the 556 with thermal that was propped up next to me and commenced to eradicate all possible.
After the dust settled I went to inspect the results. The number one swine made a 20 yard death dash and expired. When the HH exited him, it entered swine #2 somewhere mid body. Swine number 2 went a couple hundred yards before expiring. Steve and Brian, This is unacceptable. I expect my projos to kill faster than that. 😉

Ps. Many swines were harmed in the development of this report.
