Who still shoots the old 06

My 30-06 was a gift to me from my FIL years and years ago. It has traveled from one coast to the other and to Alaska. It has now has been passed on to my grandson along with a full reloading capability.
And he also has my 7mm Mag.
When I go, he will also get my 243 Rem.
FWIW, all three are Remington 700s.

I considered a single shot for a while but at this point I'm happy with my Sharps but I may eventually get a C Sharps in 30-40 or 30-30 if I can get them to put muzzle threads on it.
I prefer my single shots with rims, this sounds like a great project.

I inherited a Rem 700 KS Mtn Rifle in '06 when my dad passed in May. Haven't had time to shoot yet. It's been rebarreled with a PacNor SS tube after it spent a nite in a creek in B.C. I shot some a few years ago with 180gr NAB's and it put 3 shots under .300 at 100yds.
I have every intention of using it in the field someday.

Sorry if this is in the wrong location as I am very new to this forum. I have a 30 caliber problem and somewhat of an addiction. I have recently started down the rabbit hole of reloading, and learning every second of the way!
Anyway, this year I decided to venture out and build/develop a 30/06. I did get lucky enough to elk hunt the past 4 years, and i LOVE my 300WM Bergara but I am planning to suppress my hunting gun as i had a plug slip last year as I was putting the 2nd round into my 1st bull, who had just gotten up from a double lung shot at 500 yards and I think I am still ringing from it HA! And I know 500 yards is not "long range" but to a woods guy such as myself where I live, shotting 500 yards is not likely, so range time is all i get!
I decided to build a 30/06, I know it is not the newest and greatest or the best, but I did not want to add a suppressor on to a magnum and have an additional 6" hanging off the barrel. This year when I hunted, the weather was warmer so I was in the timbers more than i have been in the past and having a barrel that was 26" was enough walking through that!

Anyway, figured i would see if there is anyone still shooting the old rounds out there. I suppose I should get with the times and buy something newer, but they just seem to worry me about which one will take off, and which one will not last. I am not sure if i will ever be a good enough reloader to reload my hunting rounds, because I have not even gotten all of my components yet! so i wanted to stick to something commercially available.. Call me scared i reckon!
Using the same one for 45 years..... BAR grade II...... hard to beat one for running shots.... I modified it some years ago....2" off barrel and 3/4" off buttstock..... really quickened it up.....

I'm a long time fan of the 30-06. I own a few rifles in 30-06, two Remington 700's with Kreiger barrels, a Winchester Model 70 target rifle, an 03A3, an old Mauser with a Winchester M70 target barrel, used to own a bunch of M1's. The 700's and the Winchester target rifle are all sub MOA rifles with ten round groups. Haven't really wrung out the potential of the other ones yet. My favorite powder now is Ramshot Big Game, with 175 SMK's and 190 SMK's. The 195 TMK's are great too. I like IMR 4064 and H4350 powder as well. I'm a target shooter, they do the trick for me. Also have a few .308 target rifles.

The 06 still works. Even with an M1 lighter loading and iron sights.

Sorry for the late reply, been a busy week for me with the kids and work.. Plus new safe was delivered so trying to get it all setup!
To answer a couple of questions that i read over: I decided not to cut any of my 300WM's down to a shorter barrel lengths because I was told that I could lose enough velocity to make the magnum not as efficient as it should be. I am an amateur here, so I took that as another excuse to build another gun.
I am a 30 cal addict, hands down. In 30/06 alone I have 8 of them. All of them are older, or sentimental to me. I have a 721, 722, (these were my grandfathers and great uncles, still have the hang tag for the 722!) 7400, 742, couple savages 110 and of course a garand. I am a sucker for any good looking gun, but even more so any 308, 30/06 or 300WM.

I am glad to see so many still running a round that has the history of the 30/06.
