Who is from Wisconsin!

DreamMaker, winmagman, Where are you guys? I am trying to get into reloading but have no money. Trying to peice together what I can without spending much. I was working at Russ Darrow here in Madison until the whole chrysler disaster. I'm not working now, hence the cashflow shortage. I would love to get together with you guys and do some shooting sometime.

John,

Actually due to the wife wanting the basement finished I've got pretty limited space at my place so I came up with a portable setup that stores in a closet when not in use. The press stays mounted on the corner of the workbench unless I'm taking it to the range or I need to use my vice for something.

I can also take it to the range when needed and use it on the tailgate of the truck, works great with the press mounted next to it on this.

cheddar,

I hear you on the cash flow problem. My wife just recently joined the ranks of the unemployed. She's the educated one in this house and was bringing home the majority of the bacon.

As much as I love to burn up powder and throw some lead I'm a little reluctant at the moment since I'm not sure if or when I'll be able to replace the components. I know it'll get ugly around here if I'm buying bullets instead of groceries.gun):D

Winmagman,

You definitely put some thought into it. I take it that you mount the press by way of the hitch receiver. How do you use the press in the house?

Money is tight all over and I am pinching where ever I can. Right now it looks like I'll spend close to $700.00 for dies and all the accessories and that doesn't include bullets or powder. I have a Rockchucker, but nothing else. The Redding Match dies sets are really expensive. I going to run some numbers tonight just for grins. Saving money would be nice, but I'm more interested in accuracy and have ammo avialable to me.

Cheddar and Winmagman - where do you go to shoot. The only ranges I've been to in Wisconsin are in Racine and Bristol, and that was many years ago.

Dream,

You got it, slides in just like a normal hitch, chains hook up like a regular trailer, couple of turns on the turn buckle to tighten things down and your good to go.

In the basement we have one room about 9'x14' that isn't finished. In that room is the furnace, water heater, water softener, utility sink, small chest freezer, 5 drawer rolling tool box, fridge and a 6' long work bench. On that bench I get one corner to mount my Rockchucker press on, usually have to clean off a spot to put the rest of my stuff when I reload. BUT it beats buying factory.:D

I do the majority of my shooting at a friends place east of Beloit. Takes me about 20 mins to get there, and I can currently shoot out to about 500 yds, used to be further but vegitation is starting to get in the way. I used to use the range over by Yellowstone, but its a long drive and I've been on the 200 yd line and actually had people drive in and park between me and my target. I now try and avoid that kind of temptation.

Nice setup Wingman. I wish I had something to take to the range. I just got a Co-AX and really love it. For my silhouette shooting I have a Dillion 550b which sure is a time saver.
I'd have a press for you Cheddar but my son has my Rockchucker and any extras that I had around the house.
Just a reminder that I have a match at Daniel Boone, just south west of Cabelas this Sunday, shooting starts at 9am. I just got a batch of score cards from headquarters today so I"m all set.
Everyone is welcome to shoot or just watch the steel fly ;-)

Yotefever - are you refering to the Cabelas near Milwaukee. Could you provide addition info so I can do a Google map?

Thanks

Here's the place he is talking about.

Daniel Boone Conservation League

I don't think I will make it Yote. Sorry.

I just joined the Bristol club. They are currently working on a 200m rifle range. They have an outdoor pistol range, 5 trap houses and a skeet field. The people I met there while filling out paperwork were awesome. They have lots of raffles so I can waste what little money I have!

cheddar is right, you can almost see holy hill from the club. If anyones coming I'll have my 7wsm pistol there, and a few bullets...

Cheddar - at that price you can't go wrong. I would check this and other sites for info on that scale. My understanding is that one needs to consider how use (meaning - as unit warms up with use) effect accuracy and consistency. Also how often it has to be calibrated seems to be an important consideration.

Are elcetric scales finicky like the balance beams for level?

Can you elaborate on this? I don't understand what you are talking about? Sorry.

Ok. I figured out your meaning. As the electric scales gets warmer, it may change consistency, right? I would not have thought of that.

Cheddar - Yup... that what I was trying to convey. Also how well does it hold zero? Lastly, check out the Frankford Arsenal on sale at Midway ($19.00). It's accurate to 1/10th grain, GS-1500 is 2/10ths, and it gets good reviews.
