Re: Berger to introduce 7mm 195 gr EOL Hybrid Hunting Bullet
I have a 7mm-300wm. It's a trued rem with an m24 contoured 1-8.5" twist benchmark finished at 27.5" with the lug bedded in an HS precision wearing PTG flush bottom metal and the 5 round 300wm magazine. It's got 26 rounds of 180's down the tube. --Ok my plan was a ladder test right of the bat at 600 with these sleek beautiful 195's...but it was too windy (gusty 20 ish) I worked up loads at 100 instead and shot them off sand bags out the window of my smiths shop. I started with H1000, virgin win brass sized with RCBS bushing die, F215m. It's 60*F at 400 ft above sea level. I started them at magazine length 3.620" which puts the bottom of the bullet below the neck/shoulder junction which I didn't think was 'ideal'. This is giving the bullet a substantial jump also (to be measured). I shot one at 69,70,71 grains into 1/2". Next 3 @71, 3@72, 3@73, 3@74. The 3 at 74 grains tightened up noticeably but also showed slightly flattened primers but bolt lifted easily and I did not see any extractor marks. I loaded up 3 at 74.5 grains and they squeezed themselves into a very nice group for me. So I hooked up the magneto which has been consistently showing 30-40 fps slower than other chronographs that have been verified at distance. I was very happy to be getting 3060 fps which means I am probably at 3100 fps!!!! With the G-7 at .387. Wow that gives me 20.4 moa drop at 1000 and 53.3 moa drop at 1 mile...still@1260fps. next will be verifying drops out as far as I can go. I hope these long things retain stability "out there past them treeeeees". To be continued....
