Which Action for a Custom .338 Lapua AI?

The large shank Savage is 1.120 also 20tpi so larger at the thread root.

I stand corrected.
I have never worked on one of these but I do use 1.125+ barrels and a Remington setup so I get a heavier barrel shank over most of the chamber. (I don't use the barrel nut)

If I re barreled one of these I would still use the Recoil lug with no barrel nut to help prevent extraction problems by using 1.250 or larger barrels.

After looking at the barrel shank, it is still 1'' past the threaded area and leaves the chamber somewhat unsupported for the rest of the chamber. I prefer to have a barrel shank slightly longer than the cartridge for the added support it gives the chamber.

Like you I have found that More chamber support furnished buy the barrel and the tenon has a lot to do with extraction.

Thanks

I might be asking for a lot here, but is there a CRF action (like the Montana 1999) that would be strong enough for the .338 Lapua AI while also being trim like the Weatherby Mark V? If only they could make me a strong model 70 action clone that does not have a massive 5 round capacity and weigh a ton.

I know a Defiance can be had in a Lapua size and a CRF bolt and a hunting weight but I do not know if it can all be put together. Lone Peak makes a Lapua class action in Ti but it's not CRF.

There is supposed to be a hinged floor plate compatible version of this action coming sometime this year.

I was told they have some concern about how they will function with all the available floor plate choices so they may be sold with a floor plate and magazine designed specifically for the action.

Has anyone ever done any custom rifle work with a CZ 550 action? Since I am looking for a traditional CRF action with a hinged floorplate, the CZ Badlands .338 Lapua sort of fits the bill. I really like the idea of the set trigger too. I know the action is strong enough to handle the biggest cartridges, but I am a little surprised to not see anyone doing a custom build with one. They are certainly cheap enough and I am sure that they can be worked on pretty easily to make them not so rough. It still might be too bulky of an action for what I am looking for but it is just a thought.
