What talents do you have...

I have the talent of squirrel brain. I was diagnosed with adult ADHD when I was 26. I recently needed to stop taking the meds I was on as they're raising my blood pressure too much (I'm 31 and already on 8mg of perindopril and the pressure still was averaging 150/90 - that's not okay at my age for the long haul - yes I could eat less salt and be in a bit better shape but the doctor had the decency to just straight tell me that this is genetic as well: lots of people older and more out of shape than me with way better bp numbers)

Anyways, off my adhd meds I have a real talent for annoying the daylights out of my wife, talking too much, impulsively researching gun stuff even worse than before, and forgetting where my dang keys are literally every day 🤣
Please take care. That crap is really bad 👎 . You've got too much life left to get sidelined.

I lost half of my key ring last night, but I found them this morning since you brought up keys.

I can't remember names for crap! But lay you're credit card down for six to eight seconds and I'll spit out your number to you from now on. Its strange how I can remember a sixteen digit number but not your name. Gimme a few a few more seconds and I'll have your exp date and security code. Trick isn't to try and remember a 16 digit number but four four digit members. Always had a thing for numbers. 4417 1237 1300 1212 first credit card number I ever had. About 40 years ago. Won't do you any good now !
My girlfriend calls me rain man. I can do the same thing and do math in my head. The first few years she had to double check my numbers with a calculator. Now she ask me for her credit card or bank account numbers when ordering something. Her friends would read off their credit card numbers not believing I could remember them. They still can't how I do that. It's like I just see numbers......Yet I can walk in a room and forget why the hell I am even there.

I beleive that is a form of autism. It's where more brainpower gets assigned to mental tasks in certain areas at the expense of others. Of course, being absent minded is also sometimes a sign of either genius or dimentia🤣

I have a bit of the hyper-focusing a ability too, in different ways. I can see, build, and manipulate into motion complex mechanical things in my mind, put loads to it, and "see" stresses/ how things will fail. It's actually a sickness for me as my brain rarely stops either building or acessing mechanical things unless there's a suitable distraction such as from my lovley lady or a hunting pursuit. Or racing.

Some of my fellow racers thought I was bad luck and could put an omen on their car, as I'd walk up to a newly built machine with it's body off and immediately see the weak points. I'd point them out, usually with them insisting it would be fine. Later in the race, that part would indeed fail.

It's getting more magnified as I get older- both the good abilities and the short term memory thing- getting to where I have to rely on others alot.

My 5 year old is autistic. The hyper focus is real haha. He does indeed struggle immensely with emotional overloads, being overstimulated by his surroundings and melting down easily, etc… though we've made great progress with him and I fully credit my wonderful wife with that, she's just always known what he needs it seems and I've felt a tad clueless…

Anyways, when he was 3 years old he was telling complete strangers that Ganymede, Europa, Io, and Callisto were called the Galilean Moons and that they orbit the planet Jupiter haha. I love it.

There a fine line between what some label "different" and others that emulate genius ! God bless!

Hey, like a few others on here I'm a bit of a Jack of all trades. Decent woodworker, done a bit of wood carving, can do plumbing and electrical. Mainly cause it annoys me to pay someone else to do it. Put floors, windows and doors on my house, tiled bathrooms. Built a 16x16 shed that mirrors the design of my house, last wall going up was less than a 1/16 inch from fitting in perfect. I was a Calibration specialist both enlisted and Warrant Officer in the Army and then an Electronic Equipment Specialist (emergency essential, deployable) for Dept of the Army. Many times over the years I'd look at schematics and immediately know what was wrong without even knowing what wasn't working. That component would just kind of jump out at me.
I've really enjoyed reading this thread, some incredible and interesting people are here.

We called that PMEL in the AF. Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory. Great career! I like doing what maintenance I can these days. Trying to remind myself that some things are beyond me now. My wife says so! 🫢😉

You sound pretty interesting yourself!

Hey C-130, I went to school for PMEL, we call it Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) in the Army at Lowry AFB in Denver. AF, Army and Marines went there then. Never saw any Navy there. It was a great "job" in the Army. Small detachments, commanded by a Warrant Officer back then. Good Times!

338 Dude, thanks

Yeah. I hear it a nice paying gig in the civilian world after you get out. My dad had some background in it. He was a communication electronics type. Other than that, I had no idea what he did. He retired as an 0-5. Days gone by....
