What length barrel when using suppressor?

My 6.5 CM has a 22" threaded barrel and I'm going to leave it at that length, but my 7RM is not threaded what length would you cut and thread it to using a 7" ultra thunder beast can? 18" is their min. for 7RM and 24" is current barrel length.
Also the barrel is fluted can it be used with a can, only about 1" to tip is not fluted?

They can thread through the flutes. I'd go 20" on it. My 6.5x47 and 30-06 are 19 and 18. Quite handy with a UL7.

Depends on the contour. I would not cut any off a 24" 7RM myself. I run Ultra 7 & Ultra 9 on my 26" barrels all the time. No issues. 25SST, 6.5SS, .280AI. My 7RM is a Bartlein #3b fluted, so I can't run a TBAC CB 1/2"x28 (only meant for .224" bores) on it to mount the suppressor. So I just run a APA Micro Bastard brake on it.

But I do have a 24" 6CM, 22" 6.5SLR, and 20" 6.5SS I run the cans on too.

Unless you plan to pack it in thick cover, cutting makes no sense. We all have these powerful rifles to maximize velocity. Of you want short and handy, get a Kimber Adirondack and carry the can in your pack. With a 6.5 CM or 308 you won't give up a lot.

I'm experimenting with a 23" 6.5-284 and a ul7. I hunt open country but not sure yet if it'll work for me. I sure do like the short barrels and giving up a little velocity has caused me no issues. If in doubt go 24" and cut it later.

For this reason I always just contact TBAC with the measurements and they let me know the scoop on if they can do it or not. Give them a shout and see what they say. I sold a rig that I was going to chop and thread through the flutes, but for that diameter they said it could be done.

Talking with TBAC to get to where the flutes lowest point is to reach their recommended OD I would only have 17" of barrel which is below their min. so this barrel will just have to wait for now.

I run a 6.5 SS 22' with can also a 20" 308 and a 17" creed. Depends on how you hunt

20 creed, 22 prc. I like 18-20 with a ultra 7 can. The 7mag is fine with a 20. I ran 162 eldx through one I built for a friend and it ran 2850. I have no issue running a short barrel with a can these days and giving up a little speed. Just find the right powder and get it done.

That is crazy. I am running a 156 Berger in my 20" 6.5SS and getting 2975. Granted, it is about .7gr from max, but I am super happy with that speed. I never thought I would get that. I was hoping for 2900 w. the 144!

that's fast for a 156 but they have a short bearing surface as well so they don't lose that much to other bullets in the class. My prc isn't as fast as yours unless I push it hard, but it's acceptable. On the 7 mag I was running factory ammo in that rifle so I don't know what it was capable of.

Lance, Is that with RL26? Great speed.

I have cut and threaded hundreds of barrels into the fluting, I never got any report back of accuracy issues. 20"-21" on a 7rem mag works well. But as said above , if you hunt open country you may as well keep it long.
