what is "used" 338 bolt gun market right now?

I am not at your stage yet but know it will happen and think about it a lot. Sad reality is things we need to sell are worth exactly what someone will pay. With most things including guns, time is a factor. If you can sell direct you will almost certainly make more than to a retailer. They usually pay about 50% of what they can sell it for but they don't need to flip overnight. Specific to guns you have it appears very premium stuff but the market is so dynamic with new cartriges, glass, stocks, barrels, etc. not sure if used is a way people go now. In my eyes I will need to downsize so I can downsize home and more future looking to limit the burden on my family to deal with them when I am gone. I never went into shooting looking to make money so disappointing as it might be when the time comes I plan to make sure they go. With reloading I had to offload some equipment in the past and donated to the state Junior R&P team to use or sell for profit. To me it is about moving stuff on my timetable and making sure it goes to people who will use it.

Good luck, not sure of any of this helps.

I have been through 8 or 9 maybe 10 338's in last few years. But I was back in Montana and had the room to stretch them way out !
Yes they were the thing to have back a few years ago , 338 Rum , 338 Edge ect.
Now we are getting different/better performance with new Caliber's.

Your looking for that very few group of shooters that just cant give up on the big 338's !!
So I'm sad to say but it's a good chance you will loose money on all of them .
But there is always that one guy looking and waiting for that type of set up to be Listed !! 😎😎😎

I'm sure I will be Buried with a 338 Edge !
Atleast that's what I'm thinking !!

i am not sure mine is a 338 edge, the terminator i mean, i believe it is a 338 ackley improved, it shoots a normal 338 lapua mag round and fireforms the brass (the shoulders get bumped flatter). i got tired of reloading in general, so i never reloaded the fireformed brass, i just shot 338 lapua mag ammo, (applied ballistic ammo,,which is now Berger AMMO). isn't 338 edge a different thing?

I've got a LPR .338 edge that probably has only 50 rounds through it since I bought it in 2016. I just have a hard time working up the enthusiasm to burn through the powder and primers I have with it for load development so it sits in the safe topped by an ATACR . I'm not into selling guns so I gave away a GAP 300 WM to a ex-marine friend who will make better use of it than I had been. If I die with the .338 edge in the safe before I figure out a better plan for it, I won't care anyway and won't feel as bad as if I sold it to some stranger for 30% of what I had into it.

I hope all of you older folks like me looking to dispose of excess firearms are able to do so in a manner that leaves you feeling good about it.

I'm older than 80 with guns I should sell. But so are lots of others on this site, Unfortunately, a gun like anything else is worth what someone will pay for it. Not what it cost to build. In addition, I started a thread recently suggesting that calibers above 308 are no longer needed for game other than the dangerous kind. And then a 375 or above is better. With advances in bullets and faster twist barrels 308 and below now does anything a 338 will do with less recoil.
mayby that is why i was able to sell my 375 cheytac for a reasonable price a couple years ago.

Sellers of custom anything are at the whim of the buying market. If you are in a position of needing to clear out the gun safe then maybe one of the auction sites like Gunslingers. Yeah, they take their fee but you can set a bottom line reserve and you don't have to deal with buyers lowballing you. Just focus on the lump sum at the end of the process and not the profit / loss. Moving on I guess.
